I’ve just got myself an Xplova Noza S Trainer and thought it’d be helpful to have a thread to share info and experiences.

My first question – I’m noticing a small bump/ticking sound on every rotation of the top flywheel, does everybody else get that or is there something out of alignment on my unit? It feels a bit like a rim caliper rubbing on a wonky wheel.

After a couple of quick training sessions on the Noza S I'm generally happy. This smart trainer thing is a bit of a revelation to me as before I was using rollers. In comparison, the trainer is so much quieter, and when training in erg mode I don’t need to worry about changing gears or balancing and can just concentrate on smashing out the intervals.

The two issues I have had so far are:
- Lack of cadence meter which is a little annoying when doing training intervals that have cadence targets. Seems silly that it can’t do this when powermeter hubs can. I think I have a spare Ant+ cadence meter somewhere that I need to find and install.

- Had some issues disengaging erg mode for some higher power intervals – unit was in the sun so overheating perhaps?

Keen to hear other people's experiences and tips.

I have a noza s. Generally happy with it. I did have a problem with the Bluetooth connection which prevented me connecting to the trainer app. The trainer did connect via ant+ tho so I could use zwift.
Xplova did a warranty repair on the Bluetooth and since I've had the trainer back it does connect via Bluetooth and I have been able to update the firmware.
I haven't heard any ticking noises from the unit whilst it is in use, it is pretty quiet.
I use a separate cadence sensor.
Can't comment on the erg lag. I probably don't have enough power to worry the trainer?
Is the firmware up to date? What trainer programme are you using?
I've used zwift and I had a go at Rouvy.

I got a cheap cadence sensor from Amazon and use it along with the nova. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08GFF4T4M?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

My Nova S arrived yesterday, assembly was easy. Connected to it to my iPhone via the Nova Workout+ app, because one of the kids was using the iPad that I use to stream workouts with the SYSTM app. When I went out to the garage later in the day to do a workout using the iPad the trainer would not connect to the iPad even if I turned bluetooth on the phone off. Couldn't disconnect the bluetooth between trainer and phone via phone settings as it didn't have the little "i" in the connections list. Eventually found that the only way to break the connection was to delete the app off my phone. When I finally got the trainer connected it was only showing the erg mode icon. Did the workout anyway and the resistance changed in the right places but no power or speed recorded. Not impressed so far.

Just submitted a helpdesk ticket to Wahoo and a warranty claim to Chain Reaction.

I've started using the Noza S a bit more over the Holiday period.
Has anybody had issues with overheating the Noza S?
I ask because on the last ride I did an FTP type effort up Alpe du Zwift and I am starting to worry that I'm overheating the unit. I didn't measure the temperature of the flywheel but it was too hot to hold and was emitting an aroma of burnination. I also finished stronger than I expected and suspect it was over-reporting the watts a bit due to overheating although it'd be pleasant if my fitness has actually improved that much 🙂 I may add some kind of additional cooling just as a precaution.

The Noza S is made by Acer/Xplova and not Wahoo. Something I've found is an issue is on the Zwift connection screen it adds the PowerMeter as Bluetooth and the Controllable as ANT+, however, it only works correctly in ERG mode when I manually set both connections to Bluetooth.

My Noza S has been performing fine.
Rode up alpe du zwift with the STW club and had no issues or oddities from the trainer.
Did the Neoyokyo sprint meet up with the STW lot and again the Noza S performed well, I managed to push out over 1000w.
Not ridden it since.

Is everyone able to connect their phones via bluetooth and the xplova workout app?
My Noza S is running firmware 1.134 which was an improvement over the original firmware that it arrived with 18months ago.

Are you a high rpm or low rpm type of rider?
I ride 'low' rpm at the mo, around 70 on average. When riding up the Alpe my gear ratio on the bike was big ring 50T up front and maybe only 25T at the back. In reality riding up the Alpe I would have ridden 34T up front and 30T at the back. Similiar ascent time to when I rode it in real life tho.

Are you using a fan which cools yourself and circulates air past the trainer?

I think average-ish, depending a bit on setup. This effort was probably just below 90RPM (lost cadence data due to ANT+ problems but that is a story for another day).

I perhaps should've said I was riding the 'riders choice' training programme which sets the gradient to zero so I was using something like 52/18. 🙂

I'm using a vacmaster centrifugal type fan which is quite directional and pointed up at upper-body , probably producing little airflow over the trainer.

Just to share the details - was 299W average over the ~55minute climb (well under 4W/kg I'm largish) but started conservative and was logging about 350W for the last few minutes (potentially over-reported).

@Twisty My helpdesk request to Wahoo was about whether the Nova S is compatible with their SYSTM training app. They have replied and said they have identified this as a bug and that their development team are working on fixing it.

I've since downloaded Zwift and the trainer connected no problem as a controllable trainer and as a power source, Level and ERG mode both felt like they were working properly. So at least the trainer is not faulty, perhaps it doesn't work with all apps because it does not communicate in using an industry standard bluetooth protocol, if there is such a thing?

@retrorick I was only able to connect my phone or iPad to the trainer by bluetooth in other apps after first downloading and connecting with the Workout+ app.

That's good to hear.

The initial problem with my trainer was the Bluetooth connection to my phone which prevented me from checking the firmware and other info via the 'xplova workout app'.

Once the fix had been sorted by the helpful xplova service team under warranty the trainer has been working well.

I have used the trainer with Rouvy and it worked. Currently using with zwift which it has always connected with via ant+ (with a dongle from the pc).

I found the flywheel was reaching a temperature of 99-100C after an ftp type effort. I think that is a bit too much and might end up cooking the electronics so I've bodged on a fan which has reduced the temperature to about 60C. In both cases the ambient was 20C it has halved the delta T.

fan bodged onto noza s trainer

I'll point a thermometer at my trainer, straight after the next stw race and see how warm it is.
I've never felt in fear of it overheating, probably because it is being run in a cold room.
Room temp does increase a few degrees tho, a combined effort from my self, the trainer and the pc running zwift.

Turned my noza s trainer on today in anticipation of Tuesdays stw race and I thought I'd check the xplova workout app to see if there had been any firmware updates since I had last used the app and it gave me the option of a new app, a graphically improved xplova workout + app!
No firmware update though. Nice to know that Acer and xplova are still there in the background doing stuff.
