XM421 or what rim?

Anything else worth considering for a medium weight, mid width light trail/xc wheelset. Looking at about 1750g in 28 hole, 29" flavour on 350 hubs and comp race spokes. Don't think I need the width of an XM481 for intended tyres.

Happy with mine and CRC appear to be doing 28h at a decent price, have you seen cheaper elsewhere?

I’ve just bought a couple of XM-481 as spares since the price was good

I've found a single rim cheaper @ £50 but am not holding my breath that it'll be fulfilled at that price, otherwise CRC looks the best so far. It looks like I can get away with one spoke length which makes things easier, the same length as needed for a xm481 (future build for different bike). Makes the box of 100 viable.

Also temp tempted to get a couple of the 481s and sit on them.

Arch mk3? Or is there a mk4 now.

XM421 and XM481 are both decent. I’ve got both in multiple wheel sets. I’d say I’m slightly knocking the rear out of true recently (no dents) but it’s on a heavy alloy transition sentinel with cascade link / coil / Lyriks etc and it’s getting quite a hard time.

In 650b size they’ve always run perfectly - I’d say the last year or so I’m riding stuff harder / faster and more tech and steep terrain. If I break my 29er one I’ll get an EX511 / EX471 I expect.

There is an Arch Mk4, it's between the two DT rims for weight and width. A bit pricier though as not discounted much.

This bike doesn't see the big terrain, got the full suspension for that.

I'd build them up first. Or maybe just buy a chair.

XM421s are great, mine replaced Arch mk3s which were cracking around the spoke holes. I'm, ahem, 95kg-and-a-bit geared up. 25mm inner width ideal for 2.3 Maxxis. I used ex511/471 conbo on my bigger bike with 2.5s though.

I ordered another pair of XM421s last week, £105 delivered to the UK: https://r2-bike.com/DT-SWISS-Rim-29-XM-421-32-Holes

That's a good price. If my other one doesn't get fulfilled then I know where to go 👍.

I'm just over 80kg kitted up so should be fine on that front. Have 2.3 Barzos to fit on them, again think these will be fine.

For a bigger bike I'd definitely want the 30mm internal. That's what I currently have though it's a 27.5 bike (halo vapour 35).

I was looking for similar last year for an XC wheelset and ended up with the Arch Mk4 as it seemed the best balance of width/weight if you're happy running 'smaller' tyres.
