Hello,
If you stay in or near Edinburgh and have a Bird Zero (AM or TR model) in size XL, would you mind if I had a look at it please?
I'd like to buy a hardtail (narrowed it down to 45650B, DeeDar and Bird) but would prefer to see them all in the flesh. On-One appear to be too small. Tried a friend's Zero AM in Large and it was too small. I'm hoping Bird XLs are the ticket.
(If not, Bird have got a demo day near Durham in April. I might jump on the train).
Cheers,
Colin
Its actually 3 days, and you get the bike for the whole day so worth the trip maybe? I can run you over to Hamsterley in the Van too.
Ben, cheers, that's really kind of you.
I've decided to just order the Zero TR. I'll put in an order tonight.
I really liked the AM I tried but the TR I reckon is more suited to what I would use it for (2-3 day bikepacking trips or long-distance off-road ITTs, e.g. Cairngorms Loop).
I'm 6'2 or 3" tall with a 34 inside leg. Size L has a 18.5in seat post and I'm way past the recommended minimum height on my current 18" frame.
A Zero TR XL with a 40mm stem and a 35mm rise handlebar was what one on your colleagues suggested. Which sounds good to me. I'll change the configuration to include a 375mm seat post.
Thanks for help so far.
(PS. Am I right in thinking please that a Zero AM in size XL with a 50mm stem would be a roughly equivalent fit to a Zero TR with a 40mm stem?)
Almost its probably closer to a TR with a 32mm stem in feel, as the lower front end (although your bar choice will compensate a little) makes the bike feel longer.
Ben, cheers. I think my main concern is I have a Stumpjumper in an 18in frame and it's too small for me. But I reckon either Bird in an 18in frame should be bigger (as both ETT and reach is longer).
I'll admit I've totally over-thought it all though.
The TR is a great bike. I was shocked at how much lighter mine is in comparison to a friend's DeeDar.
Cheers Jay - Just ordered one.
Did you get the XL Zero TR in the end? Sorry to jump on an old thread but am thinking of buying one myself and am debating sizing between the L and the XL. Coming from a 10 year old rockhopper am a bit confused by the new geometries and how my old 21" frame compares.
Like you I am 6'3" and wear a 34" inside leg so am particularly interested in how you find the XL size wise as I think this is the one for me.
Any info would be much appreciated.
