This is the area, around Postensplain

It's fairly typical lowland forestry. A bit hilly, a bit muddy in places with a mix of singletrack and fire road.

I've got no inside information, only what I've read on the website.
Woodhouse farm gets used as a base for foot orienteering events around Hawkbatch, so there's a possibility that that will be the race HQ, although it's on the wrong side of the road, so maybe not.

Wonder if the course will be open to ride before/after the event?

Well, it's the official Wyre Forest Mountain Biking Area, not that they've bothered to put any signs up to let you know, so unless the course is actually inside the rocket site, it is and will be open.

Would be good if Wyre Forrest would pull their fingers out and signpost it properly.

As you can't compete on legal rights of way most XC races will use other bits of trail rather than normal way marked ones, which more often than not will either be, or criss-cross, bridleways etc. Means you get to ride different stuff too!

I did the first ever Midlands XC race in 2007 at Cannock, was a good event.

As I understand it, you can't even cross a RoW. If you look at the map, http://binged.it/WniLfy that doesn't leave much of an area between the footpath and the road.
I wouldn't expect much cooperation from the locals if they've applied for a temporary footpath closure either. One of the local councillors wrote about how he was trying to stop mountain biking in the area in his election leaflet.

I hope Paul at Bewdley Outdoors, with his local knowledge, and Midlands XC have got round it somehow.
There's a couple of good trails around Earnwood Copse. Maybe the race will be based at Rotten Row Farm.
This is far more exciting than guessing the new location for Mountain Mayhem. 😀
