I use a fairly nice Specialized XC helmet (could be an S3) for my commmute but it's getting a bit long in the tooth now. Are such things (basically a decent road helmet with a visor) still about? MTB helmets appear to be more focused on the Xen/Montaro style these days while road helmets lack visors.

My S3 is also coming to the end of/well past it's end. I've largely given up on a peak as it limits your choice a lot (I want a central vent for an exposure light too) and decided I'm going to use a cap instead. It seems to be largely better for rain, which is the main time I miss a peak anyway.

FWIW I have been looking at:

- POC octal
- New bontrager velocis (or the new circuit, which looks the same but appears to be cheaper).

They are both on the pricey side- I'm looking for light and airy too, if you just want a commuter they may not suit!

I got used to having a nice helmet when commuting as I originally used the same helmet as I used when MTBing and that got steadily nicer, mainly due to free upgrades following claims on Specialized's crash replacement policy! But even the S3 which is a nice helmet was not close to the price of a Velocis as far as I recall. The visor thing that Bontrager do may compensate for the lack of a proper peak though.

Catlike Vacuum

Lightweight - you don't look like a enduroist or roadie

Top end helmets have got to cost silly money. I would probably get the new circuit over the velocis. Looks the same, is slightly heavier.

Giro Fathom is an Atmos road helmet with a mini peak.

I've just got a Smith Rover which is a bit more XC than MTB

Specialized align comes with a visor and is only £30 if you want to stick with Specialized

I liked my Fox Flux.

And just bought a Carnac XC from PlanetX, which is a Fox Flux

I'd say a Lazer Z1 or if you don't want to spend £200 on a lot get a Blade, bit heavier, not a cooling, not quite as fancy pants all round

It looks very much like a Flux inspired helmet but seems different enough to make me think it's not a rebranded Flux.

It's an open mould helmet according to other things I jave read. And side by side with my Fox Flux, it's very apparent.

It certainly comes out of a different mould than my 17 Flux, that's quite obvious. Same for the injected plastic. Good inspiration though.
