Planning on a new frame and fork, for general use (xc and trail centres) and with a large focus on xc racing. Frame, I've settled on getting a Scott Scale 740 once I can sell my current frame and fork. Seems like the best mix of budget and racability. only 250g heavier than their lower carbon frame.

so to the fork (100mm 27.5 flavour). Max budget is £500, ideally less, if it can be financed so much the better. Options are:

Marzocchi LCR carbon (reduced from 900) - I love the look of this fork, good weight and it got good reviews, but with Marz going to Fox I'm no sure about the warranty.

RS SID XX/XX worldcup. both reduced on CRC to more or less within budget, the non WC one is more expensive but can be had on finance. Lightest fork available as far as i can see.

Manitou Marvel - don't here much about these, cheaper, but heavier.

Fox? heard good things about the new dampers, bad things about the old, could only afford the cheaper versions as they don't seem discounted often so probably not a good option?

Thoughts on any of the above or other options?

Lighter than anything else on the list and reputedly stiffer too.

Also have a SID RCT3 on my 29CS. Been providing good, faithful service XC racing and blasting round trail centres so also cannot fault them. The damper is left fully open 97% of the time though...

SID RCT3 here too. If you really want to spend the money difference up to £500 then get a ShiftUp damper and lighter thru axle. Lighter and better performance than a pricier SID

Magura are well worth a look too. My old Durin was by far my favourite fork (had Fox, SIDs, Leftys, Manitou over the years) in term of damper feel and overall performance.

Cheers all, going for the RCT seems like a sensible way to save money - I kind of wanted a remote lock out but its not really necessary

I went for the 29er XX world cup in the CRC clearance. But then I like a remote lockout.

I've never had a remote lock out, I like the idea but I find with fork mounted lock-outs I lock them out then forget I've locked them out till half way down a descent, not sure if the fact it was on the handlebar would remind me or just end up as handlebar furniture

I have SID XX on my superfly. I find the handlebar mounted remote always reminds me if I've forgotten to unlock them. They are very good but I'm comparing them to fox evolution float which were not great. The DNA motion control damper is very very plush. Bike is super light too. If I had to choose I'd go XX WC.
