I have been bullied into the Gorrick Endurance this weekend. I'm only doing the 6hr not the proper 12h but I have never done anything like this before only A few of the the Enduro1 events.

what riding and how much should I be doing this week. I now have CX bike for road as well as my MTBs.
And what food to eat before and during the race. I don't eat meat, fish or similar. Not a health freak more like fat and fussy.

Thanks

This week - not much, it's too late. Keep your legs ticking over, don't get tired. Pasta will do before. During its up to you what you fancy. I like Jelly Babies and Jaffa Cakes.

12 x 2:30 min 95% FTP intervals, 2 beers and a chicken stir fry for me today. 30 mins of the same on Thursday (excl beer), and a 30min warm up consisting of 2 x 5's at FTP and 2 x 450w sprints on Saturday as I taper.

See you Saturday.

😀

For you just ride around at a comfortable pace for 6h and don't get suckered into following idiots like me thrashing single laps at pace as pairs or teams. If on the 4th or 5th hour you've feel you have energy to burn and feel like a race experience go for it and leave it on the trails, it's BH Monday so loads of time to recover.

Most of all, enjoy it.

Enjoy it and enjoy the ride, drink plenty, bottles are better than packs, food wise, I'm a banana man but have also used sliced Genoa cake. Make sure your lights are fully charged and the brackets are on your bikes and helmet ready.

Did I say enjoy it. I'm setting off at the same time as you in the fat bike class.

Don't be a first lap nutcase!

Start steady, finish steadier.

I'm gonna be completely at odds with everyone here...
You don't want to look at the results on Monday night and think "I really wish I'd done a fast lap!"
So smash out your first one - you know you want to! Then spend the next two completely hanging and recover enough to ride the next 4+ at a steady pace.
It's only 6 hours after all 😉

And as everyone else said, enjoy it!

What Adam just said - go for it.
You'll feel crap at about 3-4 hrs anyway - expect it, deal with it and you'll pick up again for the final lap(s)
Take some proper, savoury fodder. And beer for after.

Carb (Porridge or Pasta) around a hour before, then little and often.

Jelly babies and 1 small soreen banana loaf per lap. 1 bottle per lap. You'll not need anything else.

Don't do too much this week, a few steady rides around 1-2 hours then rest on Friday.

As other have said, don't chase pairs and team people, most people are doing a different race. Aim for a time per lap and try and stick to that as much as possible.

And keep going. You may think you'll go quicker after a 15 minute rest, but you'd got to save 3 minutes every lap for the 5 subsequent laps for that to pay dividends, and that's unlikely.

Regardless of how good the weather looks (eternal optimist!) take all the riding kit you own*, a warm jacket and wellies.

Most of all - have fun and enjoy yourself!

See you at the weekend.

Also don't wheel to wheel race people, concentrate on your own pace. Had this 'rascal' doing it once at wildboar 24 caught him on a climb and he proceeded to crank it after me, passing me on a fireroad descent before I finally put him to bed up the next climb. probably cost me a bit overall to do that and certainly would have hurt him more. Silly boy. Use people as markers/targets by all means but don't go contesting for lines n schizzle it's annoying and a waste of energy

Edit: Also don't don't go on an advice seeking thread and sour it with a loosely related grumbling acedote. 😳
