So, come to service the lowers on my velvets (Long overdue).
Got the lower legs off, didn't have the angle right as i removed the legs and oil all over the floor, no worries but then i noticed as the uppers slowly lowered (Bike stand was bit loose whil , more oil came out of them, is this just the oil from the lower legs coming out of the upper areas of the stanctions ?Â
Plus, the non-travel-adjust side upper part was loose within the stanction i can tighten that back up fine but should it have oil in it ?Â
Help would be great as i could do with it all back together by Monday !.
Have you watched the relevant video? There should be one somewhere on YouTube that takes you through a RL2 service.

Do you mean the damper side (the side with the rebound adjust on it?) . It's hard to tell from your description, but if so, then yes, the damper should have oil in it. Roughly how much oil came out, and did it mainly come from that side? As a point of comparison, you should have 15ml of oil in each lower leg, but if you've emptied the damper somehow, that should have had 70ml or so in it.Â
It's been a while since I worked on an RL2 on one of my bikes, but if you suspect you've emptied or part-emptied the damper, the best thing to do is pull it apart, empty it completely and refill it with the right amount.
There is a post about halfway down this mtbr page which tells you how to refill the damper, if that's what you're talking about.

So i did watch the video but it was late night after work. Oil levels were not much but ive got enough oil re fill all bits. Yes re bound the adjust side (Non air side) then. I was more concerned with getting the lowers off using the 4.5mm socket and hammer approach and didnt notice the angle i had the forks at !. The damper tube was slightly loose so i un did it !. I will re fill it and screw it back in place ! Thanks all for the help, last time the shop did it but i thought how hard can it be after watching the videos !

Update: so i had dropped the oil from the damper. Went and refilled all oils and put it back together all went well but i cant get the damper side foot nut on. I've even tried putting the damper in the lowers first but nope wont go through the lower leg hole, any one got any ideas ??? !!!
Do you mean the end of the shaft is not reaching the hole or not fitting through, or you can't quite get enough purchase to thread on the footnut?
Can you fully compress the airside?
Do you have a crown lockout - can you extend the damper a little and then lock it out so you have enough length?
Xfusion recommend using a tool to pull the damper tip through the hole, as it can be a bit fiddly with the footnut, but it should be possible if you're careful.

So long overdue update -Â
Â
So manager to get it working big hammer was needed. A plastic washer had mangled itself at the end of the shaft and was stopping it from going together. Done some local quick rides nothing serious with no leaks etc. Lockout appears to be working again, just need to get it dialled in and go from there. Thanks for all the ideas etc
