Hi - I'm looking to replace the forks on my Orange 5 (just an age thing they from 2011) but I still love the bike and most other bits including 1/2 the frame is a lot newer than that anyway.

I do a mix of riding. Mostly XC, single track, trail centres etc and the 140 that the bike came with is great for this. Sometimes I do feel that a bit more suspension in the bag would be useful. Not essential but nice-to-have.

I wouldn't want to sacrifice too much on the climbs and I've read of people having mixed reports of increasing the suspension on the 5's so I was considering adjustable travel.

From my reading so far most people seem to be saying that the better suspension is not adjustable from the big boys e.g. pikes & floats over Revs & Talas.

Does anyone have any direct experience of the X-Fusion slants with and without DLA (Down Low Adjustment) apparently which can alter the travel from 130 to 160 mm.

Thanks for any info.

Ade

Abigale has been running the DLA ones on here Enduro since March, including five weeks in the Alps. They do what they say they will do. A good light fork that is very plush and easy to set up. Got a good deal on them from 18 Bikes who also set them up for her light weight.

I've got a set of Sweeps (650b specific forks) without the DLA as was advised at the time of purchasing that the non-DLA has a more progressive damper. The forks are good, lightweight and are also internally adjustable should you want to reduce the travel.

I'd suggest getting in touch with J-Tech Suspension to have a chat about what you want as they were great when I got mine earlier this year and they did mine at a great price.

eh? As above, you can get Dual Position Pikes 160/130. That would be my pick. In fact it is my pick as I have a pair on my Zesty.

Nice one guys. thanks for the tips. Will check them out.

of course the X-fusion has the benefit of taking the 650b wheels too for forward compatibility. Will check out the Pikes for that.

Any of you guys tried?

Not the slant, but I have the vengeance HLR DLA(140-170mm) on my gary fisher roscoe (140mm, same angles as the 5 if I remember). You can shorten the travel to 130/160.

DLA is nice, I ride it at 140 most of the time and pop it up to 170 when I'm downhilling. The HLR damper is brilliant- I've not ridden the new pikes or fox stuff, but there is no comparison to my 2009 revelations and 2010 fox stuff I've ridden, it blows them out the water.

Did have a problem with the DLA after a year of use (was knocking on top out, still worked fine) and x fusion fixed it and had it back within 4 days under warranty. High/low speed compression adjust is great.

All in all, the best upgrade I've got in ages. Dont know what prices are like at the mo, but Im assuming a fair bit cheaper than rs or fox, I'd really recommend them. Lent the bike to a few people and they've all said the fork is way ahead of the fox/rs stuff they have.

edit: just seen the slant has the rl2 damper. I havent ridden this, only the hlr damper so not too sure how useful my info is! The hlr damper is ace though 🙂
