Got a McQueen and it's a squelchy old fork on the rebound, plus I need to run it at a much lower psi than recommended by X-Fusion - still feels a bit wooden and seems to be getting worse after breaking in fairly well.
Anyone got experience of these forks? Be good to hear if others have had a different experience.
Yes: squelchy on rebound (well it was yesterday, didn’t lube the stansions after previous, dry, ride out might be the issue, dunno).
yes: running much lower psi than recommended. Probably 20% less...
not been used enough to say whether it’s getting ‘worse’... still ‘breaking in’ 🤪
I have read that with 36's, this is usually a sign of a poor damper bleed.
Hm. One of my mates said the same and he's an engineer and everything. Might be off to TF Tuned.
I've had my HLR sweeps replaced under warranty and had a full damper rebuild on the second set, and they have always been noisey. I don't find them wooden though. Not sure what air pressure is recommended for my weight, but I run 0 HSC and 6-8 LSC from from fully open. Rebound is between 1/3-1/2 way from fully open, I forget how many click as there's so many.
Thank you for the counter-argument, mark90. I'll see how it unfolds I guess. Did you use tf-tuned for the rebuild?
It went back to upgrade for the damper rebuild as a warranty issue due to something failing inside (developed a knock and a LOT of squelching during a run), the first warranty replacement was for flaking paint on the crown at 3 months. My preference would be to send it to Sprung or TF
