Potentially stupid dropper question. Fancy a dropper but restricted choice as I need a 27.2 one. Is the X-fusion HiLo any good, and how does it cope with being sprayed with mud off the back wheel? What's maintenance like?
Ta,
Andy
I was very unimpressed with mine - worked ok (never great) for about a year, spent money on seals and getting it serviced, but in the end it was leaking fluid and failing.
Gave it away and the new owner (molgrips) has managed to fix it and I gather is getting use out of it - he's posted details on here of how he fixed it. (Do a search)
Nonetheless, I wouldn't buy another one and have gone for a thomson elite instead.
The Thomson seems a bit steep...
I've got one. Been riding it in the slop since November '15. No problems so far.

I'm hoping it will last longer and won't let me down.
Also I found it difficult to get the seat angle on the HiLo right, and it had a nasty habit of tipping up on a ride. (Tip - lots of grease, then do up really tight, and don't weigh 14stone!)
My son got one, found it v sensitive to mud/water/etc ingress, within weeks had to fit a goretex sealed cable then it was fine. That was one of the 1st generation /few years ago now. Was working ok when he sold the bike it was on after a couple of years
I had a 1st gen one, ran it through two pretty grim winters in the Peak. Worked fine, not as polished as a Reverb but did the job. As far as I know it's still going strong.
it had a nasty habit of tipping up on a ride
Carbon assembly paste in the clamp fixed that for me.
Have a search on here for recent threads. I have the Hilo SL and wouldn't buy another as I find it pretty unreliable. The seals are rubbish although molgrips has found some better replacements on eBay I think.
I've had a 27.2 Hilo on my hardtail for a couple of years. It went back for new seals at just under a year and I've just serviced it this week with the uprated seals. I've done a lot of miles on the post and it was shared between 2 bikes with a 100kg pilot. It doesn't work as nicely as the reverb I have on another bike but that only lasted around 7 months before needing a rebuild (not warrenty).
If you don't mind getting your hands dirty the hilo is a home serviceable unit with no special tools required.
