x-9 front shifter wont shift into big ring, almost gets there then snaps back to middle ring. New bike from crc, shifter worked o.k. for 2 weeks. any advice appreciated.

Possible knocked something out of alignment or cable has simply betted in and is to slack to get you all the way to the big? Probably best to pop in to your local bike shop if your not confident with setting up the gears.

Thanks,

Not a set up problem though, had to set up gears as soon as bike arrived, [cable tensions, screw for jockey wheel / cassette interface e.t.c.] Definitely an internal problem with front shifter, wont shift into big ring position even when cable disconnected, it just clicks back before indexing properly. Just looking for tips before I open it up!

I had this problem too once, after about a year. I opened mine up and found a little bit had snapped off the lever bit you push and was rattling around inside. Had to buy a new one. Then the rhs one went too. May be the same thing.

Looks like I'll be getting a new one, definitely got that 'broken' feel about it, might take it down LBS, but seen one for £35 online, could end up spending nearly that to have it looked at/fixed, so maybe just stump up for a new one.

It' Mrs Inksters' new bike, and she dont like it as much as the big S she's used to, so maybe go down the xt route and flog the front shifter and mechs. After all, 2 weeks reliable but stiff service doesn't inspire confidence, never had these probs with deore, LX, or XT. just lubed & changed cables occasionally.
