could anyone please give me some advice on finding some trails over the wyre forest please? Or could send me some gpx files please.
I live quite close to the wyre forest but I've never ridden there and wouldn't know where to start in finding trails
There were some old MBUK routes that were published over there but a lot of the Wyre Forest is cheeky trails from what I understand.
You need to find a local cycling group to head out with and they'll show you most of the stuff I would imagine.
Indeedy it's cheeky but tolerated by the FC, who do close trail that are deem dangerous (or cause conflict) as they are fully aware of all the trails in use, but for the most part they just let riders get on with it. I wouldn't have thought a gpx would be much use in a wood (I don't have a gps so am not sure..) local guiding or just exploring is the way forward. There is a FB group "Wyre Forest MTB Trails" where it might be worth asking to join local ride, as the local shop Overspoke has closed, so I don't know if there a regular 'shop' ride still being organised.
Trail's wise, most are on the far side (across the river) from the visitors centre, though that not to say there none on the VC side, but they tend not to be anywhere near the VC. Strava heat map might be your best bet for an overview of where to start.
All of the riding (indeed the entire forest) is on the same side of the river as the VC.
Ahem, I meant the dowles brook, definitely wasn’t talking about the Severn.
The overspoke social ride still exists, I believe they meet at the gate at 7pm on a Tuesday still. The problem with heat maps and a gpx is heatmaps wont link them together well and a gpx would just be annoying as you'll still be hunting a little bit. I definitely recommend hooking up with someone local to show you around. Wild boars meet at 8am on the bridge in Bewdey and ride there every sunday. I ride there once a week at least but I certainly dont get up at that time in the morning!!!
I can't believe you live close by and have never ridden there, in the dry the trails are fantastic!
Golfchick do you have any gpx files that I could look at to get a general idea of where I'm going please?
Not sure I'm fit enough to keep up with group rides as I have a 7 month old that is sabotaging my bike riding !
I'll send you a message with my email and we can sort out a strava gpx file. A mate does want to ride this weekend and he's probably equally as unfit as you so you never know I may offer a guide.
it's riding perfect at the moment, just the right side of not too dusty!
I knowwwww was there Saturday at 5pm into the evening. Was mega! Hoping another weekend ride is possible while still good conditions.
If dryish I tend to go exploring Buttonoak and Hawkbatch, both east of Dowles Brook. Some nice if short sections to be found there off the main fire-roads.
Also, no-one mentioned Ribbesford which I would have thought would be the first call, is that still a goer?
*edit - seems it is
Yeah Ribbesford is still there and apparently a new line has opened up. In fact I may pedal past on the weekend and do a few loops before heading into the wyre forest.
forecast not good for saturday 🙁
Oh poop maybe I should go ride the Wyre tomorrow after work instead while it's still a bit dry
New line at Ribbesford is very nice. Left very natural as opposed to feature packed. A nice addition. But I'm not really sure how you would link it in nicely with the main forest.
Forest is great but for me I definitely need to follow a mate as it all looks the same too me and I never know where I am in there.
If you live in Kidderminster you can ride from there, along the canal over and down through Burlish Top, cross the river and go along, then push/ride up there from there. Do a few loops of Ribbesford and then ride out from the top of Ribbesford along a couple of country lanes and through some bridleways and eventually link yourself up onto the top of three bears and ride a few of the routes through there before riding back from the Wyre. It's a good 20 miler and one I've done a couple of times now.
if you've never ridden "jedi" in the dry do it now before the end becomes "interesting" with winter weather. currently it's sublime
Nah the dark side is betterer!
The shop ride has a faster and slower group and they know some good trails. If you pm me I can give you some more details.
Nah the dark side is betterer!
isn't it always! 😂
Good call rocketdog.
'Don't wander off paths, this frightens us'
I remember walking down the main path from the VC one quiet morning, and a large buck surprised us by launching itself unnanounced from the high bank on the left. It soared over a (walking in front) friend's head, effortlessly clearing the whole span of the path. She nearly wee'd. I made a whoop. Much excitement and still not sure who was the most startled of the three 😑
