Hi

I think I heard somewhere that there has been a lot of forestry work recently. Is it still worth a visit.
It’s going to be my first time there so any recommendations of where to park up would be great.
Thanks in advance.

You can find details on what's being felled here:

https://ymgynghori.cyfoethnaturiol.cymru/south-east-wales-de-ddwyrain-cymru/caerphilly-larch-felling-operations/

I've not been over there for about a month, but judging by Instagram it looks like they've only been doing preparatory work so far (resurfacing the forestry roads etc).

Usually park by the river, before the bridge, on the way to the Ynys Hywel Centre.

We were up there just over a week ago (27th) and they were still resurfacing the fireroads but pretty well progressed on the ones serving Wyllie.

As above, we normally park on Blackvein Road.

I was up there on the weekend and its running great, if anything a little too dry as the steeper trails are getting loose.

The resurfaced fireroad is actually much easier as well so that was a boon.

I've heard mid-october is when they aim to commence felling, after that I'll be shut for 18+ months sadly.

Assuming the work has begun already, does anybody know please?
Whats the current status?

Heading to Risca area for an explore and recently found out about Wylie too so wanted to check the trails out.

Thanks

I haven't been since may but have seen loads of riding clips posted recently and a couple of strava friends seem to still be riding there.

It was still there on the 2nd, fair bit of moto x damage to the flatter trails.

Not sure if this will work. We normally part here as we would be a large group so need plenty of space. It is a reasonable pedal to the top of the trails and not too bad coming back when tired either.

I was there a couple of weeks ago just before the storms, was riding well. There’s been a few trees down but looks like they’ve been busy clearing them. Insta page is pretty good for updates
