Last week of July I ordered a new disc "Gravel" bike as part of N-1.   Because I have a 105 PM it must have Shimano cranks, and be "road" orientated as its for winter training, with a few towpaths nothing more.

The first bike I ordered from the well-know shop (won't name yet) wasn't available, despite being so on the internet and me ordering it.   So, it was replaced with agreement with another lesser know bike manufacturer that fits the spec, with a discount after an apology for represent something they couldn't fulfil.

That was six weeks ago.  Various issues with the frame supply and apparently waiting for 105 -7000 to come from Japan mean that I haven't got the bike, nor will I get the colour I prefer which is not too much of an issue tbh.

I'm being asked to "wait" as it should be "soon" but I'm fed up.    Do I just cancel it and find something else Gravel with a 105 crank in a £1200 budget thats has disks and takes pro-ones which seems hard to find, or carry on waiting?  Whats reasonable?

Cancel. use your money to get the bike you actually want not what the shop can be bothered to give to you.

Yep cancel, it's not the toughest requirement to fit a 105 crank is it? Just need some BB adaptors

If it's that difficult to find a bike with the spec you want, are you actually going to get one any sooner? If you are sure you are then cancel and buy elsewhere.

Well, the bike I originally wanted is at another well known store, confirmed to be in stock and discounted by £300 but is Tiagra,  hmm does that matter?

Tiagra is fine, got it on my CAADX, and tbh doesn't feel much different to the 105 on my CAAD8. If anything the brake shifters feel more substantial on the Tiagra

I think this thread has more legs than it originally looked like....

Tiaga will be as good as 105 from x years back

Lol.  I know it doesn't matter.  Its a winter bike with cable hydro's I'm not after a glam bike.  It needs to be shoved in the shed with lights on ready to go every morning.

It'll work fine.

It's not 105 tho.

Tell me about it.   I've just spent ages trying to find a 105 equipped compact 33c tire with TRP Spyres minimum - needle in a haysack, sigh...

I'm assuming you'll take able to fit the 105 crank anyway although it won't match rest of crankset?

You could perhaps fit the whole crankset off old bike?

I would walk away from the purchase and find another bike in a colour I like ,with 105 on it.

🙂

Cancel the purchase, and whilst looking for a new bike revisit your decision to avoid full hydraulics.

I have found another bike - a Bergamont Grandurance - with Tiagra Hydro's.  I've emailed the shop to ensure its actually in stock and available for delivery.   Mrs K though is all for giving the shop a chance to fulfil the order which in theory should be this week.   So its wait for 105 & TRP's in Flouro green, or go with Tiagra & Shimano Hydro's in steel grey...

Hydros every time. Tiagra is ok kit, not sure what difference you’ll ever notice between it and 105. Hydros you’ll definitely notice the difference with though.

That Bergamont looks a decent bike, personally I would go for that and cancel the other one. I'm quite happy with cable discs but given the choice I would prefer hydraulic.

What about an Arkose 3? That's 105.

Its the chains thats the issue - that comes with a praxis chainset.

FWIW my recent purchase came with a mx of ultegra, 105 and rs500 cranks of all things. I picked up a brand new 105 crankset from my local LBS for £50 as apparently minted roadies often upgrade even before they take delivery of the bike..

I'm not to concerned with that - Tiagra is fine,  I just need my L/H crank arm Shimano powermeter to fit hence needed the Shimano spindle.

Looking forward to this now, fits my multipurpose Road/Gravel Lite needs to a T.

Stages?  I’m assuming you confirmed crank length matches your purchase?

I'd prefer hydro discs on a ride and forget commuter.  You don't want grungy cables on your brakes.
