The Isle of Wight also bills itself as Ecoisland, yet despite recently completing Sustrabs route 23 (Reading to Sandown), the very town where the route ends is discouraging the use of green sustainable transport.

I'd love to know on what grounds they can demand a bike is removed from a lamppost and what they could do about it if you refuse and have a decent lock
Men with clip boards = jobsworths!
My suggestion is that everyone turns up to lock their bike up at the same time as a mass protest.
There really does seem to be nowhere to fasten up a bike in Sandown, its weird given its a tourist destination and the island is keen to promote cycling but last I visited (autumn '11) we couldn't find any 'proper' place to lock the bikes to.
Find an old nail you dont care about and lock it to the lampost with hundreds of locks.
Flouro Jacket Man: You can't park your bike at that lampost
Me: Don't worry my lock strecthes, have a nice day
Do this to the lamppost and then have another chat to the nice man in the yellow jacket.
