Looking for views on WTB tyres

Just fitted a new Trailblazer 2.8 wide on a i35 rim 27.5 tubeless. All seated correctly etc, but the centre rib wobbles around , 5mm ? whilst the wheel is dead true. Also sidewalls are bubbling the soapy water I sprayed on to get a good seat for the bead. Had the same wobble on a secondhand tyre I took off, hence the replacement

It doesn't seem good, haven't ridden yet so don't know if this will be noticeable.

Is this to be expected for lightish 2.8 inch tyres. Any suggestions for other tyres, lightweight, fast rolling etc for mild bikepacking

I've had some WTB plus tyres that have done similar, I bought them second hand so chalked it up as a loss but I'd be sending it back otherwise.

It was a while ago now but I had a schwalbe Nobby nic on the rear of my plus bike which was fine to set up tubeless and was relatively fast rolling I think . I had a 2.8 minion on the front which was great fun , probably not in the fast rolling category but I wouldn't have said it was overly draggy considering it was a 2.8 plus tyre .

if you can find one, a 2.6 Rock Razor is about the same size as, say, a Maxxis Rekon 2.8, and pretty quick rolling. Actually the 2.8 Rekon isn't a bad call either, reasonably grippy, reasonably fast. The Trailblazer, on the other hand, has all the grip of a teflon-coated frying pan and is weirdly tall and narrow. Fast, but a pretty awful mountain bike tyre ime.

I also found the trailblazer a pretty rubbish tyre... I think it is designed to fit into 29er frames that would normally take a 29x2.4 so it has the volume of a plus tyre but the tread isn't as wide as others. Good for a rear tyre in a 29er frame with clearance issues but not an ideal tyre construction otherwise. If it fits with some space then the WTB ranger is much better, as long as it is true.

The lightweight wtb plus tyres have paper thin side walls. Had one where the sealant dried out in 2 days! Topped it up for a long ride and it was gone when I punctured. The thicker sidewalls are much better though heavier. Ranger is also a better tyre than the trailblazer.
