I've been looking at tyres. Well, it is lockdown.
The Nano Comp 700x40 seems to tick all the right boxes for me. The comp is the type that uses inner tubes (I'm frightened by new things - I won't be going tubeless till about 2040).
Has anyone ever used these tyres? I think WTB might have stopped making them, but I've seen a few sellers who have a couple for sale. My main concern is punctures. I had WTB Riddlers for a while, which were lovely to ride but seemed to be made from tissue paper.
I’ve used the 2.1s. Brilliant tyres as far as tread, ride and profile is concerned. Slightly more puncture prone-than other tyres I’ve used but mine were TCS versions. The non-TCS ones could well be tougher?
I have the tubed comp version. Excellent tyres, not really had to deal with much glass etc to comment on that sort of puncture protection but haven’t noticed any issues otherwise. Cheap as chips too iirc.
I did try a tubeless variant but they was an absolute nobber to fit and nigh on impossible to remove mid ride. I ended up with two bits of wood and jumping up and down. Not that they ever fitted properly in the first place, I think that is just an unfortunate tyre/rim combo as everything else I tried on those rims fits just perfectly.
I’ve been using the non-tubeless 700c x 40s for 5 years now. Great tyres and hardly any punctures. They are quite heavy though.
I recently changed my front tyre to a TCS Raddler, because I wanted a bit more lateral grip and got a puncture on the second trip out. 🤔
They are excellent, had the 700 x 40 on my cross bike for 3 years, more grip then 8d ever expected from tread that small and roll lushly on tarmac too.
I used Nano 40c tcs tubeless with great results
The only main issue are the side walls when running tubeless. They are susceptible to slashes given they are a fairly lightweight casing
Excellent tyre though and I would never ride ‘tubed’ given all the benefits of tubeless
Worried about punctures but wont go tubeless (shrugs shoulders)
Thanks people, I always get interesting and informative replies on here.
The seller who has them in stock is in Spain, so I don't think I'll be ordering them anytime soon. Good advice for when things settle down though. Cheers.
