Bloody Samsung autocorrect constantly buggering words up for me 🙄
Last day of been guided in Finale and the surrounding hills so had a big one with just over 40 miles
Not riden much of the well know stuff this time as we wanted to see some of what else the area had to offer and we wasn't disappointed. The area is vast and so much of it is unriden.
Already booked to come back next year
It was Friday, but I was off work so I'm classing it as the weekend.
After a summer of neglect I decided it was time to get the surly out of the shed, I put some new tyres on and removed 11 gears.
I've not ridden singlespeed for around 10 years, it hurt a little on the climbs but was loads of fun.
Near the beginning of the month it took me several tries to ride up this, that bottom section feels quite steep once on it, and the front wheel needs to be lifted over the ridge. Today I knew I needed to commit to it, but didn't bank on (sorry) how slidy the seaweed was and slid out before I even got to the bank. At which point decided it wasn't worth it and continued my ride.
Whoops. Posted in the midweek thread, like a noob.
It was biblical rain today in Northern Ireland. But this is the last day for the next week when I’m free, so I went riding anyway. It’s super to have all-weather trail centre trails on days like this.
On the downside, my expensive Rab Kinetic jacket wet through on the arms, and I was foundered by the end. On the plus side, the jacket did indeed breathe very well.
Was meant to be doing a big yomp in the Peak on Friday but have come down with some bug that's left me feeling nauseous and achy, so sacked that off. Thought I felt a bit better by lunchtime, so headed up for a few laps at Stainburn. Lovely to be out, even though feeling far from being on top form.
Feeling a bit better today, but still not quite right, so just a mellow local gravel loop. Lovely out though ...
Popped up to Grenno with the boy. Not ridden it in ages but Steel City the other week made us have a go. As usual he was much faster than me and an aching lower back didn't help, but good to do something a bit different to my usual XC/Down country/Bimbling riding. Made me think about a full sus bike, liking the look of that Dawley T16, but not sure I can justify the cost.
Also first time running a full-face helmet. Gave me loads more confidence to headbutt a tree 😄
Last day in Finale before we move further East down the Italian coast exploring the trails.
Chores had to be done first so all the washing done and hung out to dry. Sweep out the van. Can't believe how much dust and dirt gets in it.
Then a 12 mile pootle up the coast. Spot of lunch and and drinks. Sun's out, 26°. Back at the van chilling with a glass of Gavi
Well I've had quite the long weekend 😎
I've some leave left to use up and might as well do it while the weather is still good. Had an empty calendar (amazingly) on Thursday/Friday - weather looked mint so went for it.
Early start on Friday - drove up to Thirlmere. Up sticks pass (awful carry!) then down seldom seen
Along to Glenridding then up past the mines to the summit of Helvellyn, then down Birk Side to finish. Awesome day 👌
Camped overnight in Borrowdale, then classic Bash on Friday
Only downer was that the Frith Wood option down from Watendlath has been motorwayed ☹️ not sure when it happened - I haven't been for a couple of years. This used to be a classic lakes tech fest and it was awesome.
I couldn't let a great couple of days end like that and so I pushed back up to the gate at the very top and did the usual Rosthwaite descent
Had a chilled day yesterday as I was knackered unsurprisingly, but made it out today to Stainburn for steady laps. Legs still a bit done in - hundreds of fly agaric mushrooms though - more than I've ever seen in one hit
Ttop weekend.
I love bikes me
Went out this morning with some of the Sunday regulars. New boy is an ultra runner and built like it. I thought I was off color, but I was just way off the new pace and feeling like pidcock trying to stay w Remco in Kigali. Apparently set my best 30 minute power on Strava.
And to top it all the wildflower cafe only had decaf....
Only one chance to take a pic, and they're somewhere up ahead.... .
