I’m on a holiday with my wife and adult kids. But due to a herniated disc, I can’t ski. I was preparing myself for moping around the house all week while waiting for them. But, lo and behold, one side of the valley is dry enough to ride my bike (on easy trails - falling would set me back weeks in my recovery). Still, it feels like a real bonus!
(I actually didn’t really ride on snow much, but the snow made for the nicest photos).
I’ve absolutely no idea! I just posted the link to all 4 images in the same way.
Happy with a little 6.5mile ride today. First time out since nigh on buying the farm at the start of February. Still a fair amount of bruising, scabs, and swelling made it a tad uncomfortable, but I was out on my bike! Definitely wouldn't have been doable on my non ebike. Just need to let the swelling on my knee die back down.
From the Share Photo button bottom right or copied and pasted from the address bar?
I hit the share button on the photo, and then press on the link and copy it, and paste it into the post on STW.
Love it johnhe! Great pictures and making the most out of a health issue!
I’d love to post pictures like I used to straight from my albums. I get an error message every time saying “file too big’” even though well below the 4.9mb limit, I give up, again..

Im getting that too, despite phone showing 3.4mb image size 🙄
Seems to be an ongoing issue. I often just give up - life's too short and all that. I managed it the other week, but what a faff. There must be some easy way that the new forum can just reduce the image size on upload?
Shame as I think the midweek and weekend riding pictures are great, especially with a description and the location added. Do images drive traffic to site?
I fell foul of the 4.9MB thing, even though I’d changed nothing that I could tell. The forum is such a monumental PITA technically. So I was tempted to just give up. But at the same time, I have loved this forum for so long, and I’ve gotten so much out of it over the years. That’s why I started using Flickr to allow me to continue to upload photos. I just love the weekend and midweek photos threads. They really help motivate me. They’re the first threads I check and open. They make the ham fisted nature of the forum just about bearable.
Me too.
I've been a paid up subscriber from almost the very beginning of this place.
The last few years though all I look at and post for is the inspiration I get from the photo threads.
Now it just feels like it's not worth the bother.
Specially when I've asked and been told it's a Flickr problem when it's obviously not.
Shame but there you go.
Everything has it's day.
Cyclone Alfred stalled off the coast so I snuck in a windy drizzly ride which got logged as two rides by Garmin.
First one finished when I lost the front wheel on some clay a 4x4 had left on the tarmac. Crash set off incident detection!
The second half was smoother. Cruising through the forestry I spotted some machinery, but it was a bit wet for photos.

What exactly are you doing? I just paste the link of an image into the posting box and it's embdeded. I've just embedded an image that's well over 8mb without issue (the forum just resizes it for displaying) although I don't use Flickr.
If you're trying to upload the image then there may be a problem limit of upload size.
I'm a free member so can't upload, but as I've said, have no problems embedding large images. There doesn't seem any point uploading an image that already hosted online as it really just wastes STW's server space.
Surely the forum doesn't automatically upload images for Full Members who paste the link into the posting box if the image is already hosted online?
A lap of the silvery Tay today, only halfway round right enough and a few cobbled segments through Dundee still to go! 😬
Another day of searching for trails on the e-bike while I’m unable to ski this week. This included the steepest fire road I think I’ve ever climbed. There were quite a few trees down, which is a major pain.
Edit: this is above the village of La Chapelle D’Abondance, which is close to Chatel, France.
@PJay as a full member I used to be able to select photos from my album and one click upload as long as all totalled less than 10Mb. Now I select one picture, less than 4mb and I’m told it’s too big. I used to enjoy Today’s picture but now I just don’t bother anymore!

You can copy & paste directly into the editor.
What's "WRPT" when it's at home?
Weekend Riding Photo Thread.
And I don’t know what you mean by pasting directly into the editor. It’s always been complex to upload photos on here, and it has definitely become more complex recently. Rather than shooting the messenger, it would be great if the folks running the forum could actually make it easier to upload photos. Unless they don’t want photos uploaded (because it costs more to host the photos or whatever?).
@Cougar, are you a mod?
Yeah. I'm with the "it's more complicated to post photos than it needs to be". I manage, and still like to upload photos, but it's not easy or intuitive.
Take those ones up there ^^^
Originally, I uploaded them to the IMgBB website, then copied the links. Only the first 2 photos actually embedded, the remaining 5 were just the links.
So, then I uploaded directly from my phone. But, because of the file size limit, I had to WhatsApp them to myself first - to reduce each photo file size - then save each one back to the phone, then add them using the 'my media' button on the forum, tick each box, insert into post, then press 'add reply'. And then, they inserted before the text that I'd already typed.
So, it's way too convoluted than it needs to be, and I can see why other people are put off.

Sorry, I'm a Free Member & don't use Flickr, but we are talking about posting images from Flickr aren't we? The only way I can see to do it easily, is to select the photo in the album, then click on the Share Icon (right pointing arrow next to the star), select/copy the link and paste it in as plain text into the STW editor. It's a tad more convoluted than you describe but seems to work. It might be worth a try to see if you can get around your file size problem (this should embed the image rather than upload it).
I just select My Media, that takes me to Add Files.., select from my phone and then Insert Into Post. No need for Flickr/IMGBB, Imgur or any of the other photo hosting sites.
My Pixel 8 Pro takes 15MP photos by default and they're easily within the 4GB limit.
Easyish road ride with a mate on the Peak this morning - brunch stop in Hartington, dessert course at Tagg Lane Dairy
Trying a different method of posting.

nope that doesn't work properly either.
Only way I can get it to post pictures from Flickr is from my PC.
click on the download this image button (down pointing arrow with a line underneath)
view all sizes.
select a size .
right click on the image and copy the image address.
paste that into the box on STW
Every other way the images come out as a clicky link, distorted or not at all.
I used to just hit the share button on Flickr and paste that straight into the reply box on STW.
Worked every time...

It's a bit of a faff but if you use this website https://iframely.com/ and enter the images URL, it generates some embed code. You can copy the whole of the code into the Editor's code window {;} but all you need is the images static url copied out of the code an pasted straight into the Editor, it seems to work and doesn't come out distorted. For the image above the static url is "https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54373027466_815b15b329_b.jpg"
I'm not sure if this will tide people over until they get the Flickr issue fixed.
Great, now it's displaying a preview for what should be a standard hyperlink!
Sorry, forum's playing up again, the link for the Flickr embed code is https://iframely.com/domains/flickr
I don’t use Flicker or anything like that, just my phone, iPad and cloud. As above images are well below the limit but when I upload are magically inflated!
I had that issue on random occasions in the past. Just out of curiosity, open one of the "too large" photos in an editor, save it without changes and try posting it again.
I came to the conclusion that there was something amiss with the EXIF data.
Imagine my burnt orange Kona Wo (fatbike), yesterday, leaning against a rock on the bridleway east of Ullswater at Silver Crag. Glenridding, Birkhouse Moor and Glenridding Dodd with small wisps of cloud around them to the north-east. I didn’t take any pictures after that as the severe up and down nature of the track, the deterioration of the weather, my age and the slippery nature of Lakeland rock - like riding on a swarm of vaseline coated ferrets - sapped my 65 year old body so much that I felt lucky to be able to get back to the motorhome in Patterdale.
A picture paints a thousand words etc…. But in true STW fashion we have to do it the other way around.
@wheelsonfire1: LOL.
It was a beautiful day in the FoD today;
NBD for my mate, we took it in turns doing the climb as after 7 years on eBikes his Bronson was a bit of a shock to the system...
I know the grass and hedge needs cut and the patio is shite but I've been busy changing bearings and cables FFS!!
Driving on hills is okay
@Cougar, are you a mod?
I'm a former Mod, I retired a few years ago after ten years' service for the sake of my own sanity.
I don’t know what you mean by pasting directly into the editor.
It's literally copy and paste. This has been a thing since like Windows 3.1. Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V.
First ride for nearly six months today on the gravel bike
35km, 550m of climbing with a broken body and knackered hamstring. It felt great to be out in the sun but I'm completely knackered and broken this evening
Another sunny local ride, but finally got my wheels a little off the ground for the first time since my return from hand injury. Landed fine and kept hold of the bars... Onwards and upwards!
@Cougar, either you’re being deliberately rude, or you just don’t communicate well. I’d have thought it was obvious, but it wasn’t the copy and paste part. It was the point about pasting into the editor that confuses me. What in earth does “pasting into the editor mean”? What is the editor?
I always used to upload my photos by simply clicking on the little image symbol on the list of commands in a post. But before the web update, this suddenly stopped working and said my photos were too large, even though I’d changed nothing.
So I now upload any photos I want to post in here to Flickr and then copy and paste the link into my post. This is a lot more hasssle than simply uploading directly from my photo album.
Im sure you will find a way to make this sound like it’s my fault and I’m the idiot. And I may well be. Sorry for disappointing you. Interactions like this reduce my enthusiasm for this forum too.
Ilkley Moor on Thursday before the rain arrived. Really didn’t need the mudguards
Yesterday blinding other road users with my legs on the road bikes first outing. The curlews are back on the moors!
Managed to post these thanks to the previous post about being able resize the photos on the iPad before uploading. Never knew that was an option!
My best mate was diagnosed with MND last year and has got to the point where riding a bicycle is too difficult. Last weekend he bought a second hand e-assist ICE Trike and yesterday we went out for a ride together. It was great to be out with him again, bimbling about and talking ballocks. 😀
Big blue skies above the valley.
Finished with a visit to Caldwell's.
Todays outing. Went back to the same trail as yesterday, but tried to get further up. I failed in that regard - the snow made the trail beyond too dangerous for my liking. However, I’d spotted an alternative, singletrack descent around the hill on the map yesterday evening. It turned out to be an epic piece of Alpine singletrack descent! Really testing, but just on the right side of do-able.
Great ride today at Golfie.
Sun was out and trails were pretty dry.
No pictures as I don't want to be that guy on a group ride.
Finished off my weeks riding at 170KM/6200Meters and zero bike washes.
More pics from 140km of Tayside trails yesterday. Clearly mostly gravel but some very sweet singletrack bits in amongst it, Monks Road nr Balmerino was one highlight and would connect well with the Fife Coastal Path singletrack further west.
Came home from a couple of day work in Italy with a stinking cold, spent 2 days on the sofa, so out for a local hardtail spin this afternoon.

2 days in a row and absolutely stunning out there this morning.
Really starting to like the new Levo
And found a pub open at half past ten towards the end of the ride.
Perfect
Blimey! That worked.
First is a view across to Chepstow Park woods, second a new trail has appeared. Too steep to push up and a struggle to walk back up. Should be good.
Went over to Treorchy to ride our favorite trails only to find some joker has built a fortress around his house making access to the forestry road impossible. Locals are up in arms.... We had to make a massive detour amd use an overgrown footpath. The brambles were evil!
Fabulous day in Grizedale with Mrs.
Rusty home made wiggly steel thing parked next to a sculpture.
Sad because I just realised this is my last image of a long serving Zefal bottle that I left by the water tap when we went through the visitor centre 😞. Only realised when we were nearly back at the van and I couldn't be bothered single speeding all the way back to retrieve it
Yep, beautiful out there again today. 62km 1200m from the door. Mainly trail riding but also took in a variety of local jump and enduro line spots along the way.
Getting confident on one of the bigger features at the local jump spot now...but it's definitely not the biggest ... Even on this mediumly big jump it feels like you are in the air for ages - cant imagine what the really big ones feel like...but we're getting there slowly...
Sad to say - it's tick season again. Crawling on the dog (not yet attached) after a play in sunny Deeside. (I am as shocked as anyone about the state of my son's fingernails / cuticles)
Lovely day to be out on local trails. Linnet Clough was still bsically a muddy stream, despite most other places being pretty dry!
I also stumbled across a car that looked like it was either an homage to Mad Max or the owner is less tht optimistic about the way our society is going!!

Pics llok huge, hopefully they will resize when I hit submit....
Not been out at the weekend for a while, but made it to Delamere for the first time on Saturday and did the blue route. Was pretty tame tbh and no problem for the 8 year old, it's a good family friendly route though so would recommend for young ones and any sunny day out on bikes with the little one was is awesome.
Family walk up Arnside Knott today was equally lovely.
After months of having a broken van, we finally got away to Surrey for a much needed long weekend. Weather was perfect, trails were dusty in places - all was right in the world for a brief moment!

Even the local loop didn't seem so bad with the Sun in the sky

Just what the doctor ordered 🙂
Went for a night ride for the first time in about 3 years last night.
Took my daughter - hadn't realised it was her first one lol
Nothing to strenuous just a lap of Follow The Dog at Cannock.
Had forgotten how much fun night riding is!
Thought it was about time I fitted my Hope brakes & Stem that I got last year too.....
Night ride seemed like an ideal opportunity to test them out lol
