You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
My Friday NWD got slightly booked up with domestic stuff, and sabotaged for most of the morning by heavy rain.
Visited a colleague / former manager and mentor; she'd been due to fully retire this summer but 10 weeks ago, was diagnosed with a rare and incurable form of liver cancer, and is now in a hospice. Great to see her and reminisce/gossip, but it's so sad that she will effectively have no retirement ...
Went for a little SS pootle after that. Trails are greasy, but the sun came out, so that was nice ...
Sunday looks dry, should be 'hero dirt' time, plenty of grip after the rain this week, last week was loose!
@phil556 ... Aeris AM? How are you getting on with it? I love mine 👌
Ha, that's Mrs5556 on the Bird! But yes she loves it 🙂
Another hardtail rip round this morning.
Pedalled over to Yair to check out one of the hills they seem to have finished felling on.
Used to be a couple of great trails on there...
Had a walk down trying to follow the trail on Trailforks but it's totally gone.😭
Nothing but brash, stumps and more brash.
Seems the Gods of Yair legs have also walked themselves to the top of the trail.🤣
30+ forecast for here tomorrow so heading out for a steady gravel ride (Graus in Spain)
@singlespeedstu I saw those legs on Thursday!
Having not been to Yair before we decided to pedal over from Innerleithen to the 3 Bretheren. We did a couple of laps of Sweaty Bum and the other one next to it before heading back as the rain started.
Would’ve liked to explore more but wasn’t sure what was still there, I was cold & wet (and a bit grumpy!) and it was getting late.
Today at the golfie I encoutered both a puddle AND a slippy bit, it was terrible. May never did this to us.
No that's a lie, it was the puddle at the bottom of the wolves, the one that will never dry out even when the sun expands into a red giant and consumes the earth.
Still dry and dusty on the ground here, though did get a few spots of rain at the end tonight, bloody windy though.
New Blockbuster opened up in Swange though.
Dry and dusty tracks on their way back here...finally. So much so that the guy I rode with this morning had already done himself damage by the time I arrived.
Didn't take photos...so here's last night's clouds instead.
Tomorrow is race day...will be interesting to see how blown out the tracks are on the third day of racing at the venue.
I was going to go for a ride this morning - but I'm taking part (as part of a team) in Endure 24 in 3 weeks; a 24 hour running event. The WhatsApp group chat beforehand was full of people talking about their training plans, strategies etc ... So I was guilted inspired to go for a 20km trail run instead ...
No riding for me with my 2 piece collarbone. Getting my fix looking at the pics on this thread. Well I have ridden on the turbo for the 4th time since the accident, but that doesn't really count.
Wrote a thing about how I did it tho

Fun race today. Four short dh/enduro tracks as many times runs as you can manage.
Reeksy1 continues to progress knocking 30 seconds of his overall time from last year. Sadly I wasn't as good dropping 3 seconds.
Didn't get any good photos...though I did like this guy running spokey dokeys!
Lovely morning on the the JacknJill - Beacon - Blackcap - Kingston bit of the SDW. Mostly dry, no dust, bit damp in places.
What is this stuff?? Just horrible.
No idea why that double posted, sorry!
1hr45 locally on the SS HT.
Despite having driven through a 20min massive downpour just before heading out to ride, the trails, certainly out in the open, seemed pretty dry. It's greasier and damper in the woods, but not exactly muddy.
Not really much in the way of riding this weekend, but went up to Scarborough for a trial run in the new to us van and back via Filey. Weather was supposed to be shite, but the gods were with us and was actually sunnier than it looks on my pics.
Did get a ride and beers with the lads this afternoon though. Slightly greasy roots feel like mid winter evil roots when you're not used to them 🤣
Local has tipped over from Hero Dirt to slightly greasy and capable of giving you a surprise in places! Spent more time playing with lens filters for my Insta360 than I did riding (especially since I had to take the time to find a backpack 'wedge it in' bodge for me forgetting the right bracket for my tripod).
First day riding in the really minging rain in ages today. However, I was able to ride trails which were still perfect in the wet. And my Christmas present of my Rab Cinder waterproof did its job perfectly. So the ride was absolutely fab, despite the rain!
