The bolts I have are too long, any issue with packing out the underside of bolt/chainstay with washers?? It's an alu frame.

I trimmed a pair of bolts down last time. the nanny state retaining pin went unused. All is well here so far.
I would also consider using washers.

Just for future reference, the bolts are sized in mm, and this refers to the thickness of chainstay that they have to pass through, NOT the length of the bolts.
Hope this helps somebody avoid multiple trips to the LBS
