Would you include a 2 mile commute (also only do it 3 days a week) in your strava miles?

Why ask, just do. I include my commute miles. Can be 6 miles or 2 miles. I'm a sad **** who just likes to see how many miles I do in a week.

I don't include my commutes (too much effort to do every day) - but that means about 3000 miles cycled but not recorded last year. 😕

If you can be arsed. I include may 10-11 mile commute, but don't tend to include the 2 mile ride to the climbing wall, purely from a faff point of view.

Include it but place a 1 mile exclusion zone around your home and workplace...

Include them to top up your milage, but mark the rides private to stop cluttering up your followers (if you have any) activity feeds.

Suppose to see how many miles I ride in a year and to record the differnt routes I ride, so i guess I have just answered my own question!!

Just it's a bit of a faff and I feel I am being a bit faffy recording 2 miles !!

If it's not on Strava, it didn't happen; so you may not actually be at work...

I would just add it as a manual entry, quicker than switching on the GPS each time etc.

a bit faffy

Is it though? I take my phone with me ICE. Press a button and ride recorded, done.

I personally wouldn't record 2 miles. For some unknown reason anything below 5 is deemed unworthy in my head, flip knows why.

I'd not think any less of someone for recording it though.

12.5 mile commute each way over the Ridgeway? Yes. But when I started doing 2 miles each way in the Autumn I stopped. Now I've moved again and am using Strava to encourage me to find longer and hillier routes in.

If it was a faff I wouldn't bother recording any miles on strava.

I have a garmin, upload the miles through garmin connect and its uploaded to strava automatically.

Its your miles, its up to you.

I only record rides which are 10km minimum and runs which are 5km minimum.

I feel your pain. Each of those 6 taps on the phone's touchscreen are sooo tiring.

I'm off for a wee lie down now.

pfft, it IS a faff.

Take gloves off
Take phone out of pocket
Wait or strava to load etc
Put phone back in pocket
Put gloves back on...

You'd be half way home by the time you've done all that if its only 2 miles.

My commute is 1.6 miles each way. I record all my training on Training Peaks.
I don't see my commute as training, so I've never even considered recording it. When I look at my annual mileage on TP it therefore doesn't include the commute miles. If I was bothered I could work out 5 x 46 x 3.2 and add it on.

That's me though.

If you want to record it and can be bothered, go ahead.

If you tick the commute button does it stop it appearing in others feeds? I've stopped following people after all I got in my feed was there commutes, logging them as two different rides each day.

I don't log mine, no point. I can work our roughly how far I do. 6 miles each way, 5 days a week, 46 weeks a year give or take.

I do 20 miles each way, there's no way I would consider not logging it. Thats my training miles.

The main faff for me is if the phone takes a moment to find the satellites

Stick a few extra miles in to make it 'worth it'.

When making a batch of sandwiches do you get a new knife out and put the butter away after spreading each slice? 😉

1. Check you have got phone before leaving the house, set Strava recording.
2. Walk to desk whilst stopping Strava recording.

No, it seems the commute button doesn't actually do anything at all. There's no way to filter out or search for things tagged as commute.
There are suggestions for making it more useful, but doesn't seem to be much happening with that. https://strava.zendesk.com/entries/27349234-What-does-the-commute-button-actually-do-

I don't Strava commutes because it would encourage to be (even more of) a cock in an urban environment not suitable to racing.

Is it really possible to be a UK year round commuter and not wear gloves?

When I was manually logging miles (sticking route on memory map) generally anything under 10 miles wasn't counted, for obvious reasons. As strava just needs me to press a button on my phone - that I always have with me anyway - at start and finish pretty much everything bar a trip to the shops gets stravad.

I record mine. If it bothers anyone they're welcome to unfollow me.
