Yes. Mine has a similar gauge (caused by me fitting a 113mm axle BB by mistake), over a year old, hasn't snapped, worsened, done anything. Use it as a bargaining tool, that and the fact it's red should get you a good price!
yes. I assume it's heavily discounted? If you don't want it, can you point me in the direction of the seller please?
it is fair for me to ask this. Considering a unstickered new version is now £299 with warranty.it's heavily discounted
yep, should be good IMO (not worth much mind you)
But a new ones £299 with warrenty............
Yeah that's fine. (from the photo looks just like paint)
I bought one that was much worse than that and had it coated in some sort of resin at a car bodywork shop.
I'd buy that, it's not too bad. Not much more than £150 though....
Singlespeed_Shep- there is an arc'ing gouge in there (from what I can see?)
a metal frame with that much scraping would probably be a a higher risk. Should be fine but yes, with the new frames currently £299 it is a very good bargaining point.
I'd buy that, it's not too bad. Not much more than £150 though....
Sounds about right, especially if you need to buy a new headset. It was so much easier and cheaper when any headset fitted any frame. Old one from the shed, or less than £20 form ebay for a new XLII- now it's bloody £45 for an entrylevelish job from on-one.
Whats the correct headset (sizing) for the c456? I know hope do one but which is the correct size to chose?)
there are other headset options - eg FSA ones or the Superstar one which is lighter (possibly not as well sealed) but comes with both crown races and spares are easy to get and cheap. Or I'd be tempted to go with a hope one if I was building one again for the better sealing but that is the most expensive option.
Top is zerostack/semi integrated 44mm ID. You can also use an external cup new style 44mm standard which is the solution for tapered rockshox forks on a 16" frame.
Bottom is normal 1.5 spec with external cup - internal type will throw the geometry off.
Thats alien to me! Confused 😐
hora I got;
1 HOPE Bottom Headset Cup Complete 2011 CUP D (1.5inch £ 30.00
Traditional to 1 1/8inch Stepdown)
1 HOPE Top Headset Cup Complete 2011 CUP 2 (1 1/8inch £ 30.00
Integral/Zerostack)
from 18bikes. I went for the external bottom cup which is stepped down for a 1/8" steerer - you'd need a replacement if you ever went 1.5 fork but it's the right one for the frame.
Carbon Fixers
The frame I had the gouge went through a couple of layers of carbon. Must be my eyesight on the photo, does it go deep into the carbon? Have you seen it in person?
yeah the hope route requires a new bottom cup.
The other types just use a cup and bearing for a 1.5" fork and a reducer crown race.
I think there's a far more valid question here. In fact there are a few.
1. New Frame? Didn't you buy one two weeks ago?
2. Is the Turner for sale then?
3. Is a C456 the same geometry as normal 456? Remember - the one you hated? The one that lasted a week or so before being sold?
4. Have you ever heard the saying "the definition of madness is to repeat the same exercise and expect a different result" ?
5. Have you actually owned that many frames that you now can't even remember which ones you've had?
6. Of the ones you do remember, could you pick out any positive attributes of any particular one?
7. Or negative ones for that matter? Do they just all blur into one homogeneous mass of expensive alloy and carbon?
8. Are you aware of what a goldfish-memoried, benny-hill-alike, planet-headed, pasty-footed gimp this constant... what shall we call it... bike tourettes makes you look like? And the subsequent contemptuous disdain in which everyone who meets you now holds you in as a result?
You goggle-eyed spaz!
1. New Frame? Err yes. Why not I only own one bike. Why not own more?
2. Is the Turner for sale then? No but I fancy a hardtail.
3. A is a C456 the same geometry as normal 456? No I hated the noodley ti456 18" but loved the 16" steel.
(Gave up after that).
16" farme? 16"?!!! Are you aware of your actual height? DO you think you're only ickle, just because your head is so disproportionately massive
Anyway... answer the rest of the questions you balloon-headed spod
May be worth fitting one of these?
to make sure the chain suck doesn't get any worst
Isn't hora about 6'5" or something?
I have a 440mmm blackspire seatpost that may be of use.
So, 2 inch difference on a seat tube is a massive difference? Its reach my dear.
2 inches is massive only when mrsBinners undoes your corset 😯
I'd probably go for a single chainring up front if I converted my c456 to gears - there's not a lot of clearance.
wwaswas I'm 6ft1 with a 33inside.
I wish i had just gone 1x10 when I built mine.
As for the ACS - I did hear it doesnt fit the C456 very well but would like to try for myself.
.I'm 6ft1 with a 33inside
The inside of his head measures 33" in diameter.
hora - same as me, then - I prefer the 18", I must say, but it does have a fairly long toptube. I guess if I wanted somethign a bit more 'chuckable' then a shorter TT woudl help. Might be a pain to pedal too far though.
Don't buy it
456+CHAINSUCK......................SITUATION NORMAL THEN
I'm 6'2" ride a 20" c456, would get an 18" if it was more for chucking around than getting the miles in, 16" would be a bit cramped i reckon.
And yes I'd buy that.
Nice frontal photo there.
Binners, I asked him the same question yesterday about 456's. I also pointed out that he is too tall for a 16" frame. He doesn't listen.
I quite often get his mongoloid emails asking about various bikes / components and after taking the piss for a bit, I try and give him advice. If he doesn't like what I say, he invariably starts a thread up on here and asks the same question, usually receiving the same answers. Not liking those either, he ignores everyone and buys / does what he thinks is correct, usually with the result that he hates whatever it is.
Hora, you will buy that 456C despite what everyone says, and you will most likely build it up with forks that are too long for it. You will tell yourself that it is a 'BEAUTY' but on the first ride out, you will find it too twitchy / steep / slack / rigid / flexy / dead / red / noisy / quiet, and it will appear on here in the Classifieds (along with your Turner, I imagine). I await a request for a Medium Mk2 Chameleon frame to appear in the next 2 months, and I doubt I will be disappointed.
And no, I will never sell you mine.
Oh, and as for your fashion 'sense', am I right in thinking that Lisa works in fashion? Does she tell you what's 'cool'?
Good heels down there Hora, you almost look like you know what you're doing
Thinking of getting a proper roadbike as well.
Stopa, don't you fancy a Surrey Hills ride soon? I miss it 🙁
Stopadoodledoo - Its like Goundhog day, isn't it?
Now that he's decided to run 2 bikes - a full-suss and a hardtail, we can expect the Turner and the 456 to be sold, to be replaced by a Chameleon and a Blur 4X. Its so achingly predictable its not even funny.
And I like him buying frames that are too small for him. It means they're the right size for me when he tires of them - usually after a week
Thinking of getting a proper roadbike as well
again?
I'll be riding in the Surrey hills this weekend Hora, followed next weekend by either the WDMBA DH race at Rheola, or the Lakes. You're welcome to come along; you'd love Rheola, especially on that piece of plastic red shit you are thinking of buying.
Weekend after this one it looks like I'll be rolling down a straightish path through a quarry called Pindale because others say Cavedale is 'not much fun'... 😆
Lakes would be more fun
OI! Spaz-tard! Fancy an early doors ride Saturday morning? I've got stuff on in't afternoon, so need to be back early. That suits your normal itinery doesn't it?
Its so I can see the Turner before its sold. See if its worth making an offer 😉
binners yes- I can do stupid early. Would you go over to Hebden?
Well come to the Lakes then - Keensy will be out on the Sunday
Aye - I'll email you. Hebdon would be good. Not ridden there for a while.
Could do both pootle and lakes. I'm going for the plastic bike.. Just to annoy you Jason 😉
You do that Hora. Let's see who is the annoyed one when it snaps in two on the chainstays, miles from anywhere, and Keensy and I are a mile in front of you, and it's raining.
Still, it can't be any worse than that shonky 5 Spot you bought, can it? Have you learned how to ride that one yet, or is it all 'wrong'?
Well the anglesets in and the rear suspension is starting to 'break in' now.
I was spoilt abit with the SX's slack head angle so its getting used to normal frames again I guess.
See, that's what I don't understand. I can quite happily ride the Sunday one day, the Patriot the next. Chameleon takes a bit of getting used to if I've not ridden it for a while (e.g. months on end) but even then, it's an hour tops, and I'm happy.
Oh, Morton should be out on the Sunday as well, with his gel saddle cover and 1960's outdoor clothes.
Ah there you see..
*Good riders can easily jump on any different bike and auto-adjust.
Average riders need to get onto well-thought frames or that are neutral in design and set up to feel comfortable IMO. i.e ME!
*If you like I could recommend you to Jedi for some skillz?
I was spoilt a bit with the SX's slack head angle
...and the absolutely enormous amounts of travel. So going from that to a 5 spot feels weird and strange and disorientating. So the solution.....
a carbon hardtail. Obviously.
Has anyone suggested you get some kind of medical analysis of your 'logic' monkey boy? Its like someone's unplugged all the wires and plugged them back in some random order for a laugh
Binners I am allowed to one more than one bike you know. Do you grasp the concept of having abit of a contrast within my biking wardrobe? 🙄
From Jedi's UK BIke Skills blog:
Mark (Hora) contacted me about a training session, telling me that he didn't need it, but his bikes were not quite right. After postponing seven times because it was raining a bit, he finally turned up.
As per usual, the first thing we did was look at his bike setup. For once, his bike was actually pretty well there but he insisted that it felt 'dead' so we adjusted the bars, stem, brake levers, saddle, just about everything. This went on for two hours, every time we adjusted something, he claimed it still felt dead. In the end, he went off and bought a Blur 4X and finally agreed that it felt 'spot on', so we could move on to looking at his skill set.
Now I obviously made up the five Key Core Skills but with this fool, I have to make up another twenty on the spot, including a rather obvious one, don't sit down on the bike when trying to go off a drop. He keeps on doing it though, right up to the point where I have to smash a Coke bottle and glue it to his saddle. We then move onto the mental skills, but I have to have a quick rethink and call them the 'thinking skills' because he looks a bit mental and I don't want to offend him too much.
We start off with getting him to ride in a straight line through the Field Of Dreams (tm) and even that is hard enough, with him weaving all over the place like a drunken poodle trying to cross a wet bouncy castle in a gale. This isn't looking good and every time I try and explain how to ride the bike, he just starts showing me photos of some weird looking dog and starts blubbing like a girl.
I want to get to the pub before last orders, so I move him over to the jump and drop area. Bad idea. The smallest drop is literally three inches and the run out is into a smooth field, but he has a shit fit and tells me that he isn't a downhiller from London, UK, any more.
At this point, mental fatigue sets in and I call an end to the session. Seriously, ten minutes more and I'd be as mental as he is.
He asks to see a demonstration of the key core skills but I can't be bothered so tell him to **** off home. No High Five for you, freak. Now get out of my Field.
🙂

Why *is* the word Stout included in the thread title?
On form today Jason! Great last line.
I will one day visit Jedi's field of dreams(TM) and learn his core skills 8)
Why *is* the word Stout included in the thread title?
I was wondering that too.
Also wondering about starting a sweepstake on when Hora will snap and batter Binners to death with his latest bike purchase.
That's it, I'm never coming back here again, everything will be a disappointment compared to Stopadoodledoo's last post...
