an all-carbon road bike that has had a repair done to the rear triangle?
The seller describes it this way:
Carbon repair to rear triangle in the past but blended in nicely so hardly noticeable, you might be able to see in the pics but would need pointing out to identify it, doesn't affect the ride at all, frame still looks amazing and rides great
What do you think? Trust, or avoid?
It would depend on my budget and what it was. Carbon is very repairable but how much would you be saving over a new/better condition example?
How much are you desperately wanting a carbon bike? If just you fancy it then no, if money is incredibly tight but I need this exact one, then perhaps; money no object, then no.
I just fancy a Wilier, and this one looks alright otherwise.
I am not desperate, but because I sold my Pinarello yesterday, am now down to my old Trek (in terms of road bikes) until I can replace.
In any case, I'm basically just monitoring ebay, and will buy if the right bike comes along, but don't want to end up with something that is not in as good a condition as it could be.
I would not pay £580 for it, even if it didn't have a repaired rear triangle

Not for that bike / spec.
And build it up.
1.8kg F and f for £500?
Rip off. Oh its a fancy brand.
Yeh, but its got a nice paint job so weight is secondary.
It's to big for you James. The price is not to bad, at £500 I wouldn't be worried about the repair if it had been done properly. But it's to big, keep on looking.
Thanks for that, all.
So, I am currently weighing up either a:
2014 Wilier GTR (medium)
or a
2014 Focus Cay0 4.0 (large)
Further thoughts?

Maybe give it a few days at least and see what else comes up?
I'd only buy repaired if all three of the following conditions were met:
1 - it was something I really wanted
2- it was dirt cheap*
3 - I knew who had done the repair and it was competently done
*cheap enough that if the repair failed tomorrow I could write it off.
Fair enough, amedias. To put this in context, though, I have been watching these bikes (especially the two immediately above) for the last few weeks.
I have also been communicating both sellers. They seem like almost equal bikes, but I tend to trust the STW crowd more than myself. 8)
Right. If I don't hear from someone in the next half-hour or so, I'm diving in.
