... be prepared to receive a pdf, that was two sheets that you would print at home/work back to back, fold in quarters, then read as you were sat doing nothing or, doing something?

It would have enough content to keep you entertained for about 30 mins, depends how fast you read, or if you found it interesting enough and would be about cycling - think of it as a very mini magazine - would include a comic strip on one little quarter.

Obviously there would be a trial issue which would be free, possibly a new one every third week, if the first one had good feedback.

Is it something you would be prepared to pay for, i'm thinking yearly subscription etc.

surely once you've folded the sheets of paper up the individual pages would be about the size of a phone screen?

I can't see why you'd print in that case?

Could just be released as an e-book and paid for when downloaded?

Would you print it in colour or mono? Would it be cheaper in mono? Double sided?

How would you fit 30 minutes reading content on a 2 page sheet?

I think I'm out though.

And its impossible to read something when you're doing nothing.

Yet to be decided, but value for money

Designed in colour, but Mono is an option i hadn't considered.

Feed it back through your printer the other side up.

A lot of content can be fitted in a small place.

It's fine I have a duplex printer.

A lot of content can be fitted in a small place.

Of course it can, if the font is small enough.

Very true, It won't be too small though, 8pt, the focus will be on the writing, and entertainment, like it should be.

8pt? Way too small for comfort. Are you supplying magnifying glass? 🙂

I'm doing a page entitled "Muggins in less than 100".... so if anyone wants to be "IT" for the first (and maybe only issue) please contact me (email in addy), if it floats your boat?

First come first served.

A Cycling related story about yourself preferably, vaguely related will do, if its really good, doesn't matter if it's not bike related at all, less than 100 words though.

Will need a picture from you, can be anything you may like others to see, ahem...keep it clean. 😀

I've also got some quick fire, tale of the tape questions that you would need to answer.

There will be space left on the design to use a hole punch.

People don't like putting in effort for uncertain reward.

Put some content on here as a teaser and you'll get feedback on whether your work is worth subscribing to, instead of feedback on the delivery model.

There isn't, I used it to demonstrate my editing capabilities in what I deemed a humorous way.

I commissioned a colleague benefits book several years ago that was a5 folded to a6, the size you're proposing. It was something designed for people to stick in their bags, pockets, etc so they had it for reference.

I've just rooted around and found it. From what I remember the feedback I got was that the format was good but there wasn't enough info on the pages. It was designed with limited text on the page as too much text made it looked crammed in.

If you want to have 30 minutes reading material on A6 then you will struggle to make the design work. You need images to break up the text.

You could always limit the supply to people with A3 printers 🙂

Just my thoughts from experience.

Edit: We didn't ask them to print it themselves though 🙂

I read viz cover to cover in about 30 minutes. I suggest you would be looking at 5 minutes, maybe 6 or 7.

So, would I pay to print ut something that will keep me entertained for less than 10 minutes? No, definitely not.

you avoided my price question, thats the really important past, you said it would be value for money.

Bike mags are about 100 glossy A4 pages? they're 4 quid, so I would suggest anything over 20 or 30 pence would be too high.

Looks good, to be honest,

but most people will print that in black and white, as the cost of colour printing will be huge, so it will be very dark. on top of that, double sided printing, with that amount of dark will reduce the paper to mush, if you're using a run of the mill inkjet.

Cheers, it's only one double sided every three weeks,...and of course there would be pdf/online options.

i would say your best bet would be online only, and look at your income stream as being advertising once your product (it would have to be a website really, IMO) gains popularity.

I would honestly say there is no market for a magazine that people have to print out themselves.

cheers for the feedback - this is kind of just a side project at the moment, it's all about the enjoyment, as long as someone enjoys it, that's fine for now,...then who knows what might happen further down the line.

Charging for it might be tough... some good online mags out there for free,

http://www.imbikemag.com/

No room for advertising with the paper folding format but hey... good luck.

Bear in mind that (well in London anyway) there are a free newspapers available each morning and evening. The Metro and the Evening Standard are the biggies here. They are many, many, mnay pages long and I would imagine, targetted at to 30 min average read time.

What you're proposing would probably be able to be read in the time it would take me to print it, go over to the printer and get back to my desk!

I'd stick to something on-line. Maybe e-mail a pdf?
