Solo ride in the South of Switzerland today. Approx 1km from the nearest person. 1600m (1 mile) long pitch black tunnel at 1300m altitude. Lockable gate at both ends and no phone reception. Troutie Lumen Liberator light. Very wet and cold inside the tunnel. Was a lot of fun although I have to admit that the idea of someone locking the gates at both ends did pass through my mind, as well as the slightly less extreme but more likely scenario of my light failing!

On the far side of the tunnel there was a big landslide which was impassable so I ended up coming back through the tunnel. Rest of the ride was spectacular though!

Up there no-one can hear you scream (and down there). Proceed with caution!

I'd have a go though 😀

The Rhone valley, near Visp. There's a great Spring trail called the Südrampe which has all the technical challenge of high alpine stuff but at a low enough altitude that it's accessible early in the season.

Crikey, are they accessible by bike? Interesting article.

Um... Officially no.

I have been through a couple of times by bike and once running.

Very interesting, Don't wear anything that ages old diesel oil might spoil.

I'm not sure that you can get in anymore; the gates used to be high enough that front wheel off and wiggle bike along the floor did the trick.

Much more info on the web, but access is not easy these days

No rock collecting (specifically alpine crystals). £350 fine. Didn't see anything myself but I was concentrating on pedaling as fast as I could so it's not surprising.
