I know it's a roadie, but a nice bike is a nice bike. After months of waiting and hours of sweating building the thing, here she is! Super Record EPS has been 'coming next week' since February, but I finally got hold of it.

I am bound to say that EPS is fantastic of course, but it is! Step change over mechanical? Probably not actually, but the best gear change you can buy right now and very clever. Easy to set up, very intuitive. Really like the clean lines of the internally routed frame, despite the battery mount, which is nice and low so doesn't change the weight distribution too much.

I chose to mount the control unit laterally under the bars under the computer. Not sure why you don't see more of this because it is nicely hidden away, in-line with the wires and you can see the LED's when sat on the bike.

Rides like a dream. Smooth, light and comfortable.

So to confirm and dispel some myths based on very initial observations:

1) PF BB30 doesn't creak, but isn't that much stiffer that I can tell over a traditional threaded BB.

2) The tapered head tube looks cool, but isn't much stiffer than a traditional 1, 1/8 that I can tell.

3) Moots really do weld like nobody else.

4) This is an obscene amount to spend on a pedal cycle!

Will try to weigh it when I can, but it certainly isn't UCI legal.

Enjoy!

Afraid I don't like the Moots stuff particularly, but it's a stunning build.

EPS the best shift you can buy? Except DA Di2 perhaps 😉

Beautiful bike; have the Pegorettis gone to fund this or is your home like a showroom for superbikes?

Mine came with those forks which
take all the buzz out of the road
steering is impecable.
Hope you enjoy the ride as much as
mine, off to ride the pyrenees in
2weeks and cheer on wiggo and cav 😀

Well, if I had £12k to spend on a bike that would be a near perfect build for me (saybe SR mechanical would be the only change). Very, very nice.

What's the geometry numbers and when will you be selling it? 😉

Well, having given it some welly today, I can confidently say it was worth the wait and the expense (£12.3k BTW).

Sadly the Pegoretti's did go, but I do still have 3 of the Sevens, so no tears.

I did go custom (had to in order to get the internal routing and tapered corrected headtube), but didn't want a huge headtube, hence the zero rise stem and spacers.

Good to see Njee still as positive as ever! And yes, EPS is the superior groupset (until next gen Di2?!). Have you used both to make such a confident claim to the contrary?

Hi - this is my version of the above although with mechanical Super Record. Would love Lightweights and am eyeing up the Meilensteins but need to sell one of my children first. The great thing about Ti is its longevity - this bike is over 9 years old (groupset, wheels and fork are newer though)

Snap! One of the other bikes in the solarider stable. My Axiom SLX with Super Record mechanical.

Lovely bikes. Not just because it is the new baby, but the Moots does slightly edge the Seven in build quality and ride. Maybe the oversized bb and headtube do make a difference after all.

Very nice, but I'm not sure I'd trust Italian electrics over Japanese...

It really is very pretty though.

Cheers all!

Did make it to 8 Sevens but then thinned out the collection.

Yes, the IF went. Shame, but I wasn't giving it the use it deserved.

About to sell a Seven Mudhoney SL cyclocross though.......

Interesting to see how the EPS works over time. At some point I'll take the plunge - just "suffering" with Super Record 11s for now 😀

I'm not a fan of ti bikes though, too flexy for me plus I've seen too many break. I'll stick to the plastic race bike and steel bikes for general riding.

I'm hoping he's got shares in a Titanium tube manufacturer!

At least the guy has taste, an abundance of money usually indicates a lack of taste but in this case I'm glad to say he makes a very good exception!

Not sure I could dare ride a bike worth so much money though, not when for £1500 I can buy a road bike that's much better than I am as a rider...

Is this bike just a case of going for the most expensive bits and shoving them all in the same place? I do wonder if other choices may have made for a better bike.

Define "better"

Better is going to be different for different people. Clearly this bike wasn't built to be tackling the TdF on, if you wanted a bike for that you can buy an off the shelf bike for less than half what this cost that will be stiffer, more responsive and way more suitable to the application.

I suspect that the OP is far more bothered about the subtleties in the ride quality from the components he's chosen though, rather than going for an all out stiff race rep.

TBH that bike would be more than capable to win a tour!

Moots custom is well up there with if not better than a lot of mass produced carbon frames a bike doesn't need to be carbon to be competitive in racing!! Record EPS is also top notch, not even some of the sponcered world tour teams ride sup record mechcanical let alone eps.

Lush bike mate, but I think you need some smart 45's on there!!

To be fair, I find all his bikes incredibly boring. No character whatsoever. Just buy the most expensive titanium frame available and then bolt all the most expensive parts onto it. Dull.

As opposed to the ridiculously beautiful, incredibly light and expensive 48's he's got on there already? What's 3mm between friends eh? 😉

TBH that bike would be more than capable to win a tour!

Of course, it's not about the bike. But if you were buying a bike to win the tour, you can spend less than half as much on something lighter and stiffer, that would be more suitable for the application, that's all I was saying.

Record EPS is also top notch, not even some of the sponcered world tour teams ride sup record mechcanical let alone eps.

The differences between Record and Super Record though are largely cosmetic, and a tiny bit of weight, there's no function improvement really from what I understand. And seeing as many teams are adding weight to their bikes to get them up to the UCI weight limit, why buy the lighter more expensive stuff when the cheaper and slightly heavier works just as well? Certainly as most of the groupset is low down on the bike, it won't make a huge difference, and besides, an all steel cassette is going to last a lot longer than one that is half Ti.

To be fair, I find all his bikes incredibly boring. No character whatsoever. Just buy the most expensive titanium frame available and then bolt all the most expensive parts onto it. Dull.

Whilst I don't agree entirely, I've got to say that purely in terms of looks and emotion, I preferred his custom steel Pegoretti's.

Not true? I know someone who runs Ti chains and XTR cassettes as he reckons they last longer than the equivalent steel whilst weihing considerably less.

Different strokes for different folks. Mates who used to race got fed up with XTR cassettes cos the Ti cogs just didn't last half as long as XT cassettes did!

Ti is softer than steel, steel cassettes last longer. Hence only the largest sprockets being ti on XTR/Dura Ace blocks.

Bit low rent for this thread, but if you fancy getting a bit of Ti in your life, this frame is for sale as of today.
Cooper size M/L with none too common shamrock dropouts.
Lovely bit of kit but i need the money to help pay for a kitchen and have downgraded to a 2nd hand Condor. 🙁

A Moots variation - my frame built by Kent Erisken(ex Moots). Its changed slightly since the pic, no cateye, steerer cut down and longer stem.

Its a chorus group and deda finishing kit.

The welds and build quality is stunning and it rides really smooth.

Anyone got any tips on cleaning titanium?
