Hi,
Currently set up my Anthem as 2x10 but I am switching to a 1x10 with a narrow wide ring.
I have read somewhere it is advisable to put new chain on with the new ring.
My old chain has plenty of life in it so can I still use it?
Currently got a 30 and a 32 tooth ring.
Gonna try the 32 first and for certain events I may try the 30 (probably put a new chain on then)
Thanx,
Max

I'd say narrow wide part would work fine, as the width of the chain should be fairly constant across it's life. You may find that the ring wears faster though?

Try it, the teeth on the narrow wide ring are generally longer that a normal chain ring plus they are obviously designed to keep the chain on rather than help it shift to other rings. With that in mind I'd say it'd tolerate an older chain pretty well.

Of course I could be wrong......

If the manufactures could get away with it, they would recommend you get a whole new pair of wheels when installing a new chainring.

It'll be fine unless it's really worn - people will tell you it'll explode but in reality.

I didn't change chains when I did it on mine. Generally I'd say don't put an old chain on new drivetrain parts, especially alu ones, but when the chainring is £35 and lasts well I'm less picky.

What is the stretch on it?

Never had an old chain that's worked without slipping on a new chainring. Then again I tend to only replace stuff like that when it's mullered.

Hi,
Just got the Park chain checker on the chain and got a wear rate between 0.25 and 0.50.I think a new chain shows a 0.25 wear rate anyhow so I mite risk using it.
Can't remember the last time I replaced it as I am using another bike through the winter!
Thanx,
Max
