You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Found this really quite astonishing- not only is it in the Netherlands, but it's underground..
Ah, not a "Bike park" as we know it.
This'll be one of those things people quote in every thread about the UK's cycling infrastructure... "If they can do this in the Netherlands..!" But I can say for certain, it will NEVER happen here.
the cycle racks do not look very secure. No where to use a d lock.
ahh I was expecting jumps and ramps etc ... ☹️

If its like Copenhagen then you don't need to lock your bike up to anything. Most bikes have an integrated lock on the rear brake bosses that clamps through the rear wheel to stop it rotating. You can then leave your bike anywhere (as long as its not blocking or in the way) and apparently no one will take it?! I was there for 4 days and parked the bike like this out on the street and no body stole it! 😲
I was told by locals that bike theft IS a thing in Amsterdam and you do need to lock it up properly. Well, presumably if your bike is a rusting hulk of a Dutch bike like most of them are you'll be ok. But my drop bar commuter stood out.
I remember being in Ghent a few years back and we used a public loo that was under one of the bridges which also had a huge cycle parking area. It was well lit, clean and frankly made me wonder why we didn't do something like that over here , although I guess the real reason is because no-one has figured out a way to make money out of it yet.
Looks similar to the 'Velostation' here in Basel, its mighty impressive.
also underground, even has a bike repair shop & showers in it.
Bikes got stolen all the time when I lived in Amsterdam - mainly by junkies who then sold them on for the price of a fix.

Unfortunately, that's probably true. But if we just did a bit of what they are doing it'd be a great start!

Middlesbrough Cycle Center.
Indoor bike park, showers, lockers etc (never got to use it as I worked outside the town center).
I do wonder if it's a lack of demand or a lack of infrastructure though. Wokingham station was redeveloped recently and last time I passed the double decker bike rack was full and given how bad traffic is arround there I'm surprised that hasn't prompted an expansion to reduce car numbers.

We used that bike park this summer when visiting Ghent. Very handy. It's quite common to see town centre parking areas, particularly in The Netherlands. Alkmaar has free underground secure parking; you can ride in to the centre of town and park the bike, with a ticketing system to retrieve it.
Middlesbrough Cycle Center.
I'm impressed.
