DH World Cup kicks off in South Africa on Sunday (Freecaster showing) - so who do you fancy to take the overall this year?

Personally I think I'd predict...

1. Sam
2. Gee
3. Greg

Gee was on such amazing form last year and might have got the psychological edge on Greg, but I can't help thinking Hill must have been working on his consistency - and must be due a better run of luck.

So many great riders though, I'm actually really excited about it. Is this how football fans feel when the season is about to start?

Alberto Tomba
Hermann Maier
Robin Cousins?

That Norwegian bloke stands a good chance too.

I'm looking forward to Dan racing DH only this season. Fort William is the first race for him, but I reckon Gee will take the overall this year.

SA's not normally Hill's kind of track, i'm going with
1. Gee
2. Greg
3. Beaumont

but then Peaty could well pull something special out the bag...

Sorry Fix, I meant predictions for the overall title, not South Africa.

Wouldn't like to predict that tbh, the track's been substantially changed since it was last used hasn't it?

Rachel is still recovering as she is still not 100%, Dan's not doing the first round either.

The OP was asking about predictions for OVERALL standings, i.e. for the year. Rachel will probably be back by Fort Bill (Rd 2), and therefore has a very decent chance of Top 3 overall.

For mens overall, it's hard to imagine Hill, Gee or Minnaar being outside the top three... I would love to see Brendog, Hart, Beaumont, Gwin & Steve Smith give them a run for their money though.

Oh... before I go, Danny Hart for the win.
I'm not bothered about 2nd and 3rd.

would be nice to see one of the youngsters have a good crack this year
getting a bit bored of the Hill, Atherton, Minaar, Peaty show
I'm going to stick my neck out and say Brendog, would love to see Danny Hart scalp a few but he's still a bit wet behind the ears
(I also predict that the UCI website will still be shite in 2011)

The top three might be a reaosnably safe bet (discounting injury) - but it's way harder to predict the top five.

Peaty, Gwin, Brendan, Beaumont, Smith, Hart, Barel, Cam Cole... so many strong riders.

Patriotism aside, it'd be good to see Barel doing well.

Anyone going to any of the rounds? I'm hoping to get to either La Bresse or Val Di Sole (or both) and will be at the World Champs in Champery for sure, can't wait!

Gee has the new V3 Supreme and he was flying at Moelfre a couple of weeks ago. Steve Peat looked like he had that one sown up, he was very quick but Gee was on fire.

Personally I would really like to see Manon Carpenter have a good result on her Saracen Myst.

I reckon it'll be sam and gee battling it out for the top spot with Greg in third place. Danny hart will probably finish the season above peaty with beaumont splitting the two of them. Blenkinsop will be up there too as will gwin, I think those two might be 4th and 5th.

Sam Hill all the way, unless he breaks himself again, in which case Gee, though there's half a dozen that'll be chasing him.

I can't wait...!

Hard to see past the usual 3 as mentioned above but I'd predict a big year ahead for Danny Hart and Cam Cole.

The big question for me is will the 'next tier' begin to break through and push the top three or will the likes of Blenky, Brendan Fairclough and Aaron Gwin continue to find it difficult to break into the top 3 with any kind of regularity? IMO unless something has changed drastically for any of them over the winter then it will be another frustrating year ahead for them on the fringes.

Really hope Ruaridh Cunningham has a great year on Rocky Mountain. Great rider and nice bloke - deserves some good form and to get back on a higher level.

Big year in juniors too...how will Buchannan fare this year?

I had forgotten about Blenky, yeah. I think I was reading that he's being coached by Nico Vouilloz more now - so who knows?

But he and Brendan and have been bubbling under for a few years, so perhaps it's more likely that we'll see Cam Cole or Gwin breaking things up in the top three anyway.

I'm definitely going to do that Dirt fantasy league thing later.

🙂

For SA, I'm going to go for:
Minnaar
Peaty
Sick Mick

Overall I'm going for:
Sam Hill
Greg Minnaar
Aaron Gwin

But obviously I'll change my mind at each race along the way 🙂

Manon Carpenter for a top 3 overall, she was awesome last year.

Got my team together for the Dirt Fantasy League but can't see in rules if Junior points are counted.

Anyone smarter than me manage to work that out?
