First 'big name' announcement.

Manon has left Saracen

Linky

No mention of a new team, will she race in 2017? I seem to recall she enrolled in Uni recently.

Any news tasty bits of gosip on anyone else? Has Ratty hung his boots up to farm Lamas in Peru?

Quite surprised Manon has left. Wonder if that was her decision or not, or if mutual. As Longden says, she has been a great ambasador for the team.

EDIT: See on twitter Will Longden wishes her good luck at uni. So probably doing that full time?

Descent World had a thing on this last week HERE

Manon to Radon

Troy Brosnan and a Scotsman to Canyon

Richie Rude back to DH

Were just a few of the guesses about the poem.

Ahh,

Only thing Manon is from Caerphilly - Mike Jones is from Merthyr I think.

Hope Richie stays in Enduro, the RR vs SH vs JG battle could be really good next year if all stay in one piece

Brosnan moving from Spesh to Canyon could be a good move for him but he might not get to change his kit and have a new frame each round this year

Haggis, Croissants, Sushi and Kumara is surely reference to Kenta Gallagher? Would be good to see him on a team next year.

Rude going back to DH would be a bold move, and a big surprise.

Vergier on Santa Cruz makes sense. I know bruni was mooted before, but spesh needed to pull out all the stops to keep hold of him.

struggling to see how ratboy would make a good brand ambasador for anyone. Plus it would blow a coach and horses through his new found no travel green claims.

I think Santa Cruz have realised only having 1 rider, Greg, isnt enough for a team so will need to add to it. Given that juliana's are just repainted santa cruzes how about Manon on a Juliana V10 ;-0

Given the budget and the guys doing the UK based vids I reckon he will manage

In that poem the Japanese reference is regarding Kenya Gallagher to canyon as his mother is Japanese so it's him and Troy on canyon not Greg Williamson

I read something about the blue oval, roaring like the hounds of hell, bull upon its crown, new fires burning being a reference to Gee Atherton and red bull/ford rally team. His recent results in rallying have been better than his DH results!

Seems to be a lot of chat about Brosnan to Canyon - and that makes total sense considering their muscle and him being the only top guy up for grabs.

Do we think Vergier's gone to SC Syndicate then? They seem to have four male riders judging by the teaser pic - Greg, Josh, Luca Shaw & Loris?

And will Manon be continuing with DH or trying her hand at enduro?

Hope it's the latter as I suspect she could do very well and I know they have an amazing bike in the Swoop 170.

I think it's Greg, Troy, Luca and Loris, they've all announced they've left their teams, shame there's no space for a woman in the syndicate

Big shame. Tahnee would be a good fit I reckon, but perhaps they think there's no point with Rachel so dominant?

If you have a good rider brand, doesn't matter if Rachel is dominant.

Ratboy isn't even racing but he's still on Santa Cruz.

Troy Is on canyon

The Santa Cruz team photo posted by fox is Greg, Luca shaw and loris vergier, the other is Steve peat the syndicate team is 3 riders. Steve is still involved just not racing world cups.

Josh is on Santa Cruz but not racing he's having a year off and being a lad! It's not really surprising how making video edits gets you more coverage than a race result.

Manon on radon

There's a change to nukeproof too.

Richie Rude not back to downhill full time but doing a couple of races.

Troy definitely on Canyon but Kenta has gone to UR Polygon so who is the second Canyon rider?

Shame, he proved he was the best or at least could beat the best the year he won the overall and came within a gnats cock of winning a Gold at World Champs.

Maybe just needs to recharge his batteries, that kind of natural talent doesn't disappear overnight.

Btw, loving these direct sales firms like Propain, Canyon, Radon, YT etc coming in as there's less off a bun fight for the traditionally good Trek, Speech seats....also hoping they're bringing in more money with them, these guys and girls deserve more reward.

Difficult to see how a year on the piss* is going to help him win World Cups, though.

*Look in a mirror and say to yourself with a straight face "Josh Bryceland is going to party less than when he's got World Cups to compete in".

Not easy, is it?!

Not the point really, if it's not doing it for you step away, if you miss it then come back with the level of enthusiasm that made him number 1.

Yup. He'll spend a year (if not more) dicking about, being silly and making 50:01 vids (I assume that he'll still get free bikes from SC as a brand ambassador so something).

See I was right all along! Just goes to show that making videos of you playing around in the woods can make you more ££ than having a top 20 at a World Cup. Sponsorship is all about selling product at the end of the day. And what do we all do most of the time? Ride our bikes in the woods as it's fun. Exactly what josh will now be doing and we will buy product as a result of it

Agreed, it isn't F1 (thankfully) they're not a bunch of robots groomed from near birth to be WC Racers with trainers and phycologists managing mind and body to produce a winning machine, they're real human beings. A year away from the race circuit, still riding, still progressing might do him good – he may come back in 2018 ready to tear a hole in the rest of the field, he may never grace a WC race again.

As has been said time and again, you don’t have to be on the podium every race to make a living from it. Peaty didn’t worry the stop step for years, Rob Warner is still a sponsored rider – if Rat Boy can earn enough from making videos and racing the odd Enduro and Crankworkx to keep him in drift cars and narrow boats – good on him.

Personally I’ll miss him and The Syndicate Web Series a lot, sometimes I enjoyed it more than the race – even if Peaty takes over or works with Cathy (I’ve heard rumour of it) on the management side of things it won’t be the same – the Ratboy episode in Whistler (or was that when it was This Is Peaty?) still makes me laugh now.

Related thought - was Ratboy just worried he'd test positive for psilocybin if he kept racing?

Honestly in a world of marketing, endless drivel about numbers and clicks or rebound it's good to see that these guys mostly just love riding bikes.

Glad to see Luca Shaw on Syndicate this year. Showed a lot of promise last few years and has time on a V10 already.

I assume Peaty will be hanging around in a mentoring capacity and by just being Mr Downhill continue to bring exposure to Santa Cruz.

Slightly disappointing that there isn't a female rider on the roster still. There has to be a woman rider in the top 10-15 of the rankings that's crazy enough to fit in with the rest of the Rat Pack. Just need someone with potential to develop and get top 10 results. Ok most of the coverage is skewed to the top 5 because of Atherton's dominance but with the I'm sure there must be other women DH racers with the potential to trouble the top 5 if they had the opportunity to train to a similar level to Rachel.

Looking down the list Tracey isn't going anywhere without Mick, the French girls all seem happy where they are and Miranda Miller just went to specialized which will be great for them. I'm guessing there are not as many to pick from and the Syndicate is doing the "not a trade team" they don't need/get points from having a mixed team.

Perhaps its just me but I thought that SC team launch video was absolutely awful. Absolute dross that just made we wonder if the 2 new boys realised this is what they signed up for. To be honest the SC syndicate 'image' is enough to make sure I never buy one of their bikes

You may be onto something... 😉

Anyway, corporate marketing responsibilities aside - he's a ride on one of the most successful teams in the paddock, on one of, if not THE most successful bikes ever, a chance to be mentored by the most successful WC racer ever, and the second most successful WC racer ever.

It (probably) comes with a place on the most successful Team Web Series which will give you better profile than even the Marketing Dream Team that is The Athertons, which is how you make a living when you ride mountain bikes for a living.

Yeah, I'd wonder what I signed up for too, after-all the Syndicate is known for being shy and secretive - it must have been a bit of a leap into the unknown...

It's a good job the buzzkills of STW don't work in the Syndicate's marketing department.

I thought the video was alright - certainly more interesting than a generic press release. Given how the Syndicate is marketed, it was never going to be particularly po-faced.

Given the number of SC bikes out there, the marketing so far hasn't been detrimental.

Loving the blue Demo - looks like I might need to raid piggy bank for some Ohlins forks to match my shock!

What exactly like every other video out there of a guy in a full face whip, drift, whip, jump, foot out corner repeat to fade.
There will be loads of riding vids and hopefully plenty of syndicate ones where you can actually hear what the guys have to say. The last few years have been really insightful as to how the guys tick and race and has only increased their profiles.
Cooking with Greg and Josh was just brilliant - reminds me of so many race weekends

I think Brook Macdonald is not racing DH next year, which is a shame. For some reason I love his charging bull approach, elbows out, pushing the bike to its limits.

Should be a good year, I would love to see Loic Bruni and Danny Hart going head to head, pushing the sport to a new level - which I genuinely think they can.
