Trying to seat some Maxxis tyres on a set of 2015 SRAM Roam 40 wheels. Been tubeless several times but think this is first time with Maxxis.
Tyres will not pop on to run...air keeps escaping. Tyre does sort of inflate but not enough to get it to pop on to bead.
What do I twiddle on my workzone 2.5hp air compressor to get more air flowing when I depress the lever to get air in to tyre please?
I'm hoping it is the rate of air getting in to tyre that is preventing it popping so if I can increase the flow, I think that will sort it.
Saying that, it has seated on-one and Schwalbe tyres on rims with no issues...
Tried the soapy water round bead; removed valve insert and off to try and find an inner tube to see if that will work.

Usually you'll have a knob by the pressure dial. Try turning that clockwise and seeing if the pressure rises.

Have you removed your valve cores?

Bigger air line and couplings

Yeah, tried with valve core in and out.

Clockwise seems to tighten something and the air force does seem increased, but still not enough...

Will keep trying but suspect I may be visiting a bike shop tomorrow as this isn't helping my mental health just now! Hahaha

The "knob" is the pressure regulator. Increasing the pressure will in effect reduce the volume of air, you either have volume or pressure. The volume of air is dependent on the capacity of the compressor motor, yours is 2.5hp, 2.5 horse power, but the volume is measured by cfm, cubic feet per minute in old school, or litres per minute. The reservoir or tank will hold a certain volume at up to 6bar pressure. Probably yours is 25 litres?

The compressor motor will fill the tank and then shut off. The only way to get more air out quicker is to fit a bigger hose or reduce the restrictions. But you will then exhaust the air supply very quickly.

The reason your Maxxis are not popping on is they are leaking air faster than you can put it in. You need to sort that problem first. The compressor will not be the limiting factor as long as you are allowing the tank to fill before trying to inflate.

Have a look wat this for a tip that has never failed for me:

The limiting factor will be the tire inflator if your using one.

Valve core our and a blow air gun I find the best way to seat stubborn tires

Did the bead setting bit as well...I'm guessing this isn't my lucky day with this...will try again tomorrow...

Agree with the above, increasing pressure will reduce air volume/flow.

So reduce the air pressure and you should get increased flow rate which is what's needed to seat tyres.

Increasing the pressure will in effect reduce the volume of air,

'cough' It won't.

The "workzone 2.5hp air compressor" has an air reservoir with a pressure regulator on the outlet, so once the reservoir is full, the higher the pressure, the more air flow there is (until the reservoir empties, anyway).

Crank up the pressure. You probably need to reduce the leakage around the tyre, though. Have you tried tightening a luggage strap around the outside of the tyre (to force the beads outwards)?

I have seen on teh internetz that an alternative to this is to stretch an inner tube around the outside of the tyre and inflate it a little to achieve the same thing (never tried this though).

If it's really not your day and you're leaking air that badly, then you can try inflating with a tube to seat the tyre, then remove one side only, remove the tube, insert valve and then you're only sealing one side with the compressor.

Clean rim bed, new tyres, that have been allowed to form to shape (i.e. no creases from having been folded), sealant in place to fill gaps can all help too.

Get a strap round the outer diameter of the tire and tighten it down. This reduces the volume of the tyre so should help.
Using this method I’ve never been defeated by a maxxis, wtb, vittoria or continental tubeless tyre. This was done using a bontrager floorpump thats about 10 years old.
