As we move into a very tricky time i think starting a thread to swap ideas and work arounds is a sensible idea as getting tools form friends etc is not overly feasible.
What work arounds and tips would you like to share with others? What other "tools" have you used to do jobs? think spoons for tyre levers 😉
Not a tool per se, but for comprehensive on-line information on most maintenance tasks, the Park Tools website is pretty good:
Also, though again not actually a tool, lots of major brands now stick maintenance videos on Youtube - my slightly grimy iPad Mini in protective case has been arguably the most useful tool in my collection over the past four or five years.
So so many..... Most of my tools are made from bits lying around. Bearing / press fit presses made from stud and sockets, plastic pipe to install crown races, 3d printed bleed blocks for aligning caliper and pads etc.
Probably one of my fav tips is the use of concrete anchor bolts to remove blind bearings.
Proper tools are better obviously but there is a sense of satisfaction when you bodge something together.

Top tip.
Tidy your workshop.
I'm never going to have to buy brakepads again!
LOL at joshvegas. So true. If I was still using old Shimano brake pads... 🙁. Think they’ve been breeding.
The concrete anchor bolt is great!
Yesterday’s bodge was to use the hose from a breast pump to bleed an old shimano brake!!
Hamish the cat, I’m on them if it’s the ones I’m on.
Josh - would you like to tidy mine for me? I'll keep 2 m away!
Its a right mess and I keep promising myself I will clear it up but just never seem to get round to it.
Someone should do a job lot of 5mm Allen keys, I swear as soon as I out one down it immediately vanished. Need a tub with ten of them in it next to me.
Top tip.
Tidy your workshop
Just found face masks and some of the small hand sanitizer tubes
Hammer. Fixes everything, 100% of the time, most of the time.
