OK - daft question, I’ve just purchased a brand new works components chainring. 104BCD variety and is the new version with threads on the chainring. Does it matter which way round the chainring goes and is there a boost/non boost specific side? I have a non boost frame. Thanks in advance!
I believe you should have a 6mm offset ring which should be fitted so that it sits more inboard to allow for chain line.
I might be muddled as been awake 40 hrs or so fuelled by rum rum &
Eg. I have a 142mm width rear frame running a 6mm offset ring to allow for the correct chain line. Which helps the top to bottom of cassette not to be at more extremes also perhaps.
If it has a logo they usually face outwards
Also on the smaller rings the thicker threaded holes space the chainring away from the spider so the chain doesn't catch on the tips of the arms.
^ What he said. If it’s a 104bcd 30t round or 32t oval with threads in the ring I’d expect one side to have a raised ring around each bolt hole that spaces the chainring from the crank
