OK so someone may have said something similar before but having spent a few weeks off the bike - not commuting nor riding at weekends - due to work load and general malaise with life I have decided to get back on for a quick blast ahead of Christmas.

This morning I made the decision to use the full sus to commute in over the North Downs. My normal commute on the road bike was roughly 40 minutes.

An hour and twenty after setting off I rocked up to work. Covered in mud, shattered but with a massive smile.

The route is one I know really well however in the fog and dark it was a completely different beast.

I have always enjoyed night riding and having done this in the dark in the morning turned my mundane commute into a bit of an adventure. Complete with stopping to wonder where I was due to everything looking different in the dark. Well worth it though!

Does anyone else have any 'working day' adventures to share?

I tried running to work once taking a route I knew well except the last 3 miles, but there was a BW on the map. When I got there it was a classic Welsh farm sunken bridleway full of rocks, bushes and felled trees, and went along a field full of cattle
They all took a big interest in me and in the end I had to bolt it to the gate with a near stampede forming, then made it to the main A road and had to run down that to work
Turned up late at my GP practice covered in mud, blood and sweat with all my patients watching me as I did my walk of shame through the waiting room

I just told admin that she had been saving all her work in personal folders, rather than shared folders, for the last three months since our IT update... 😆

Sharkattack - that story is amazing, makes a lot of sense and the paper that it is taken from seems legit research.

All hail dirt and the tiny mood boosting microbes!
