Morning all, I'm putting a gravelly loop together to link Cam with Nailsworth then back round via the existing cycleway to Stroud and the Canal to Sharpness. Is it OK to ride through Woodchester Park from the top carpark/gate down to Cow Lane. I know we went the other way on the 2019 new year ride so it should be ok but the Park/NT websites and council suggest not. I've have seen posted routes using the park trails.
Never had any problems, but the t**t at the bottom has blocked off the path around the big gate, so you have to ride out via the steep steps.
Alternative is ride along the backroad out on Nympy towards Horsley then down Upper Lutheredge farm to Nailsworth.
The official bottom line on this is no, its not permitted. Its National Trust land and they specifically have it signed as "no bicycles", its not a bridalway.
The National Trust closed the site at the onset of the Covid lockdown, i don't think its reopened yet.
The route you mention is a fire road, the fishermen, farmer & National Trust drive mini busses & 4WD along it, but as above, they sign it as closed to bicycles. I've ridden it for years without issue, i tend to ride it during more off peak times.
The direction you mention is a descent, but i always think it doesn't offer enough freewheeling for the drop & actually prefer it as a climb in the opposite direction!
As GFJ says, once you get to the bottom you'll need to go down the steps into Millbrook Walk or halfway down the steps climb over a gate and cut up across the field to Park Lane.
GFJ's suggestion of Nympsfield / Upper & Lower Lutheredge Farm / Shortwood FC / Nailsworths a good one.
Cheers for that, I'll go with the Lutheredge Farm route then.
Dursley to selsley common is easy off road, what I’ve wanted to do is extended that down into nailsworth then up to minchinhampton. Ideally a perfect route involving no tarmac would magically appear to get to north nibley!
Basically want a big old loop from Dursley to nibley! If anyone knows anything I can’t spot on an os map let me know!

It rides better trail wise if once reaching Selsley Common you drop down Water Lane, across the A46, up Bear Hill & then as you cross the cattle grid turn right into the bushes to traverse around Houndscroft Woods, pop out at St Chloe, head up to the Amberley Inn, up onto Minch Common & across to Beaudesert School and then drop down the ladder.
If you want to head to North Nibley from Nailsworth head up to Horsley, pop into Kingscote Woods, exit at Kingscote Barn, B4058 to Lampern Hill and then trails through Rooks Wood over to Breakheart Quarry way...
I like riding the Stroud canal and Gloucester to Sharpness dont fancy it at present myself to narrow in places if you come across people maybe its just me using the Severn way wider nice route ever done the Roman road by Kemble airfield you can start that on Byways by Sapperton cheers.
