+1 for cracking=rubbish - unless it's red hot and you throw a bucket of iced water over it, then it might. Cast iron for me. Easier to make your own with steel though.

Morso squirrel FTW!

I've seen plenty of cracked cast stoves, most commonly the top plate.
I've seen cracked Stovax, Morso, BD & CO and Jotul.
Usually it's bad fitting and/or overfiring which causes the problems thgh.
Nevertheless, I'd be quite happy to buy a cast stove. I like the Brosely Serrano range of cast ones.

Watch your chimney sweep's face fall as he sees your Wenlock 🙂

I went to school in Wenlock.

Just thought I'd add that 🙂

BTW we have a steel woodburner and have never had any problems with warping or cracking. Probably one of those cases where steel isn't, er, real, though. Maybe cast is a blast.

I'm having a firebelly installed next month. Made of steel, but chosen because I like the look of it and it's fully british made.

Dunsley here, made in Yorkshire: the chap who installed it spoke of cheap imports distorting.

because removing the baffle to sweep through the stove is a PITA.
