I've bought one of these and used it a bit, because I was keen to get my bike built and ridden but realised that it is not set up right.

I have been running a small spacer on the driveside bb spindle, to get ring clearance but have realised that the cranks are too tight on the bb (and I'm pretty sure this should not be necessary) so I have 2 problems...

With the ring fitted and the lockring tight (and no spacer):
1. The lockring makes contact with the bb before the crank does, as it protrudes out too far
2. The ring touches the chainstay and when measured gives a 46mm chainline, rather than the stated 50mm

It is an external Hope bb on 73mm shell with one spacer fitted on the driveside.

Has anyone else experienced these problems? Have I maybe been sent a ring for a fat bike crank or something by mistake? I'm very confused and have emailed Wolftooth but with no reply as of yet.

Middleburn have 2 different thicknesses of Lock rings available, give Matt at middleburn a call as he's really helpful

Thanks somafunk - that might solve problem 2 but still stuck with the chainline issue.

It's one of the older x-type cranks, so maybe they changed them a bit, more recently?

Instead of using the standard plastic spacers you could use the newer very thin steel shims and sprung steel washers that Middleburn use for the newer style cranks, or perhaps Matt could fit a 4mm longer axle to your cranks that would allow you to space out the wolf tooth ring.

Thanks somafunk - all getting a bit much, as I bought the arms second hand but perhaps I'll give M-burn a call on Monday.

Make sure you have a coffee n' a snack on stand-by before you call Matt, he's one of the most helpful and genuinely chatty folk when it comes to his products so you may be on the phone for quite a while, that's prob why i've ran Middleburn cranks on every bike i've owned since 1994. Good luck, i'm sure there's a solution.
