Hi all,

Looking at upgrading my Brand-X dropper remote for a Wolf Tooth ReMote, as all reviews seem to indicate this is the best on the market, and I like the fact that I can get an I-Spec model too.

However, I'm interested in real world reviews on customer service, delivery times from the US and the quality of the product itself. Is it as good as the magazines make out?

Any feedback would be great.

Thanks

For 60 bucks I think I'd forego the ispec and look at the bontrager offering for 17.99

I got the light action one earlier in the year, as have arthritis in my thumbs. Delivery was about 2 weeks, think it cost about £50 and then another £20 ish in tax on delivery, so expensive. It works very well and for me is ideal. There was a known problem with the cable grub screw, and I contacted them and they sent me some new bits air mail free of charge. AFAIK they have changed that bit now on new ones.

No need to wait on delivery from the US now, can get them in UK now from places like ubyk.
Definetly best on the market, great feel.

TBH I have looked at the Bontrager remote, but I don't really like the design.

I understand the Wolf Tooth to operate on a bearing which should make for an easier and smoother action, and my OCD is screaming I-Spec!!

2 week delivery and appox. £20.00 import isn't too bad. I'll get my wife to buy the remote for my birthday and I'll just pay the taxes.

IAINC, have Wolf Tooth confirmed to you the clamp issue has been sorted as I';ve read about this online?

Thanks

Yeh, there are plenty of places with stock that don't involve the wait or taxes from the US. I got mine when they were fairly new from R2 Bike in Germany and it's been great. I picked up a spare axle at the same time since it's a sacrificial part, but haven't needed it.

no, but they replaced the crappy grub screw with a hex bolt on mine back in July and said :

Hey Iain,

Thanks for reaching out. We have received a few similar reports from people and have decided to change the bolt. Sorry for the trouble. I will get one of these new bolts sent out later this afternoon and you will receive a email with shipping confirmation. Just for reference in case you need to get one sooner than it can be delivered the bolt size we use is M4*6mm.

Cheers
Todd

Same as ianc I got the light action one due to tendon issues! Defo nice smooth action and it also is slightly longer to.
Got mine from D&D cycles in Barnham! so worth a call to see if they have any in stock

@MARC - I use it quite a lot and find the action quite heavy. I also find the design quote restrictive as it has to be a certain distance away from my brake lever (Shimano) otherwise it catches, therefore I find I'm moving my hand on the grip far too often to activate it.

I-Spec compatibility will solve this problem, plus it'll get rid of another clamp.

@IAINC - thanks for that, most helpful.

Thanks for al the UK links guys!

No worries. Mine's a Thompson and is fairly heavy in use and sharp on the lever edges - but I can't afford £60.

It's used a lot, but not continually during a ride like most other components.

Got a a Remote from Kustom when I updated my frame and forks and transmission with them.

It's a lovely, well designed thing, but having taken delivery this week of the bontrager equivalent, it's not worth £50 more.

Lovely bit of kit. Easy to setup, smooth action and looks good.

Got mine with a 9point8 seatpost.

Got one a couple of days ago for my KS Lev. It's great. can be had for £54 from https://www.mtbriders.co.uk/ as they have a 10% wolftooth promotion going at the moment (code:WTDEC).

I got the IS A/B one to fit to my xt 785 brakes which are ispec A. The barrel with the square bit for fitting to the shifter was too long though... easily sorted with 5 mins filing. Apparently the very first ispec-A xt brakes are thinner than later ones.

Action is lovely.

I got an ispec-a/b version to fit my hope tech 3 brakes and run my Thomson post.

Works well, fella nice, makes the bars look tidier. As above, I needed to file the T nut down a bit. I thought it was just because I was using it with Hope brakes.

Mine came through 18 Bikes

Thanks for all the input guys.

I bought the I-Spec II version from Ubyk for £54.99.

It’ll look really tidy on the one clamp, and hoping the function will be massively improved over the stock Brand X lever.

I fitted a new LA one (from KustomBikes) yesterday to a Fox Transfer on my HT. It’s even lighter than the one I put on another Transfer on my FS back in the Spring. Great wee things 😀

The Wolf Remote makes no sense at that price but I still want one.

I've just fitted a wolf tooth from ubyk la version to a brand X and it's superb .
The stock one is ok but flimsy
I've previously used a 1x raceface but this is in another league
As far as pricing I'm quite well off so £60 is not something I need to be concerned with and I'm happy with buying budget if the quality is good like the brand X dropper itself is the best I've used and for £100 is cheaper than most annual dropper service costs .
Get one there worth every penny

Does it make replacing the cable and getting the tension right much easier on the brand x post?

I imagine it would as you can pull it through at the lever end after tightening up and then nip it up at the lever and trim the cable. Is that right?

@big-bud, it’s good to know it’s made a massive improvement. It should arrive tomorrow so I’ll have it fitted by the weekend.
