I have had a Cannondale Topstone for a few months that came with WTB ST i23 TCS rims, on the first ride 4 spokes on the rear wheel came loose and the wheel needed truing but I put that down to maybe not being assembled correctly, it was repaired by my LBS.

I’m now having to tighten spokes after every other ride and after yesterday’s ride the wheel is all over the show again with 6 very loose spokes.

Is it a case of it’s just not suitable for the me/my riding or could it be I’ve got a dud set?

For reference I’m 92kgs, running 50psi and riding fire roads, canal paths and bridleways!

Is buy a set of Hunts the answer?

Warranty.

Cannondale wheels can be crap but for most riders they get away with it you you aren't.

I’ve got both i23s and Hunts on my Gravel bike. i23s are fine, Hunts (4 Seasons) are starting to look a bit used despite being used far less. i23s should be absolutely fine, I’d be looking to get the build sorted

'Big Bike Co spec low grade wheels on standard offerings' shocker I'm afraid.

That said they shouldn't be coming loose after every ride.

I'd be tempted to take them back to the shop and get them to retrue and tension, or if you bought mail order see if the seller will get Cannondale to approve another dealer nearby to do them. Or pay for it themselves.

If no joy with that that - sounds like a full retrue and tension should be done but then weigh up if you can spare the time or money, or put that towards a set of Hunt wheels (excellent, so I've heard based on a number of clubmates with them)

I purchased it from cycle solutions using C2W, they paid for the repairs at the LBS for the rear wheel, I had the front trued since then but didn’t bother to contact them.

I will email them my tale of woe and see what they say, don’t really want to be without the wheels for a while!

That to me is far too much psi in those tyres, lower to mid 30's would be where I would be if I weighed 92kg. You may be putting undue stress on the wheels as you have little cushioning on rough ground.

I have mid 20's in my tyres though only 60kg, at that pressure I've ridden some quite rocky terrain on a French enduro course without problems.

If the whole wheel wasn't re-tensioned after the spokes replacement then the problem hasn't gone away - there's nothing fundamentally wrong with the parts, just they've been badly built. A competent wheel builder will true an retention the wheel such that the tensions are even around the wheel. Your weight may exacerbate the problem of a poorly built wheel, but it's down to the wheel being bad in the first place.

Just needs a rebuild - was that what the bike shop did when they repaired it?

I've owned plenty of boat anchor wheelsets that came stock with bikes - they're heavy and slow but usually reliable, should have no problems if it's built right.

Crap OEM spec wheels are usually crap due to choice of rims, spokes, hubs etc,. but they should in no way be coming loose after every ride. Nothing to do with how you are riding them, they were clearly built very badly. I would think the bike shop should just start again by taking them apart and building from scratch.
