How does the Longslade trail riding in winter? Sloppy horrible mess best left until spring, or does it drain okay?

You definitely have patches where it's pretty much a bog, but predominantly it drains really well and rides great, what with the sandy nature of the terrain there.

I can only think of one section when you drop down on the lower parts that is particularly horrendous. Otherwise pretty good all round and no worse than you'd expect here and there in wet weather.

Also, whenever you ride it, make sure this ear-worm is stuck in your head.. 😂

Generally pretty good. Not ridden for a few weeks but walk a lot of it with the dog when there's no bikes around and as mentioned above there's one bit on the blue that never dries, even in summer! It looks like there will be work done to remedy this soon though.
I'm hoping it's riding well and I intend to be up there a lot in the next few weeks, it's literally on my doorstep!
The downside to the quick draining sandy bits is that it can quickly turn into grinding paste!

It's never not rideable. You might get wet but you'll get through. It's way more popular in winter than summer as people revert to it as other trails get muddy. The blue trail holds up less well in its second half.

I road the first half of it today. I'd say it was running well. Firm and grippy

A few patches of slop but mostly ok, it's mostly sand so drains better than anywhere else

Rode it yesterday and it was running pretty well. Most of it is still firm, only a bit is boggy and muddy but still very rideable.

Longslade is always rideable, as mentioned above, the blue is pretty much a swamp in the second half (after Bobs) and unless it’s recut further up the valley, it always will be. I’d recommend doing Longslade then ride across to Rushmere if you’ve the time and inclination.
