Anyone seen anything like this before with a SRAM cassette:

Linky McLink.

(Sorry, I've not worked out how to post vids properly.)

Are these the symptoms of a properly knackered cassette?

Asking for a friend.

What kind of freehub? XD or standard? If not XD, I d guess missing a spacer. If XD, I'd say knackered somehow. Ive had a wobbly XD cassette which was threaded onto the freehib incorrectly, but jt was all moving as one unit.

XD or standard

If I can count it's 12 so XD only I believe.

#thereisnostandard

[edit: I stand corrected, NX is an hg cassette. Who knew. so yeah op, missing spacer if it's hg fitment.]

Looks like a standard Shimano fitment cassette, so..

Is the lock ring tight
Have you had the cassette off and not fitted a spacer
Take off the cassette and check freehub (I bet it's chewed up along the splines) so you'll need a new one

Is the cassette knackered?? Maybe not, my money is on the freehub is though

If I can count it’s 12 so XD only I believe.

Nope, 12spd NX is splined/shimano fitment

Cheers all

It was working fine from new and he's done quite a bit of riding with it before it started wobbling about. Seems odd that it was okay and now needs a spacer?

He's put a spacer on, which seems to have resolved the cassette issue but he can't get the gears to index properly.

Not sure if its an XD driver or splined. I'll find out.

What does the freehub look like, are all the splines chewed up?

Not massively, but it is certainly marked, but he has got a new one to stick on.

Interesting that the largest and smallest sprockets aren't affected, and if a spacer had broken and fallen out that wouldn't cause radial movement like that. I'd be very surprised if a new freehub doesn't fix it. Is it an e-bike by any chance? Big power going through relatively soft freehub.

@beamers did the new freehub fix it, or is he still having issues?

Yes, the new freehub and spacer seem to have fixed the problem.
