Riding my hardtail the other night the backend felt a bit squirmy especially cornering under power.

I checked all the usual stuff, tyre pressure is OK, QR tight etc. couldn't find anything obvious so just put it down to my imagination.

But looking again tonight at the bike in the garage there seems to be quite a bit of flex side to side in the rear wheel, if I grab the wheel between the chain stays I seem to be able to push and pull it a bit.

The wheels are new (only a handful of rides old) Hope Hoops Arch EX 29ers , could it be that they need a re-tension already?

Check the replaceable dropout (if you have one)

Wobbly back end - do some squats and eat less pies.

Sounds like a tension issue for sure.

I bought brand new Flow EX and after a couple of rides I had enough, loose spokes and poor tension, plus gritty rear bearings.

I returned to Hope and they came back perfect, I'd get them sent back and Hope will sort you a proper re-tension for sure.

It could be wheel bearings shot - sounds too soon but the symptoms are right 🙁

I had a hope wheel that had extremely low tension right from the box. It felt terrible till I re tensioned it after noticing a couple of loose spokes.

Possible loose bearings
Possible loose spokes
Possible broken axel
