We've had a few threads lately about LBSs and not really being up to scratch for a few reasons, so i wanted to give a shout out to Blazing Bikes who were completely the opposite. They were brilliant from start to finish, even down to them dropping the bike direct to my door, not with a courier, but a bike guy with a bike rack in the van and ready to roll. Their comms, emails, phone etc have been brilliant...

Overall,, just a really nice experience with an LBS. Their shop isn't HUGE, it's not small and quite out of the way, but it's a nice shop. They are a massive internet presence though, so obviously many of you may have seen them about when looking, so just wanted to say how good they were for me.

It's not even dirty yet! Your lawn also needs weeding and the weed suppressant mulch topping up.

(oh nice looking bike!)

Front tyre and rear tyre logos are aligned differently and why are there two poohs in the foreground?

Yep, we've got two LBS's and a workshop only setup around us that are great all-round.

My only negativity is around costs - but that's because I've got too used to the CRC/OO/Merlin pricing....

I hope they correctly torqued the rear mech correctly !

but a bike guy with a bike rack in the van and ready to roll

is that because they had knicked it from somewhere the night before 😉

Just looked on their website, I didnt realise they now sell orbea.

Re delivery its only on Trek bikes > £2k not all brands 🙁

Re delivery its only on Trek bikes > £2k not all brands

Wasn't aware, but i'd certainly ring and ask them... worst they can do is say no.

Delivery was free for us too, which saved me a decent chunk of change going to collect it. I wasn't exepcting it to be free so was most happy.

https://www.blazingbikes.co.uk/delivery

DELIVERED WITH CARE

DELIVERY PROCESS

Order your Trek bike from Blazing Bikes and one of our drivers will hand deliver your new bike to your home or place of work. We don’t use a 3rd party courier service! It’s one of our team in one of our vans. For peace of mind every bike comes fully assembled and PDI’d by a Cy-Tech mechanic, not your usual bike in a box like other bike shops offer!

*ONLY AVAILABLE ON BIKE ORDERS OVER £2000
*ANYTHING UNDER £2000.00 MUST BE COLLECTED IN STORE.

I am not dishing them, I know lots of people who use them, travelling from Shrewsbury etc.

The 3 local bike shops we use are excellent: 'Northwest mtbike centre' - Cheadle, Stockport.
'Bicycle Smithy'- Hazel Grove, Stockport.
And 'Sett Valley cycles' - New Mills, High peak, Derbyshire

Iirc this was something trek instigated your dealers in general a few years ago?

Isn't the point about local bike shops that they're local, whereas you seem to have gone out of your way to buy from a shop that distinctly isn't local to you?

Maybe the local bit is an irrelevance here? I mean every bike shop is local to someone, really they're all just 'bike shops'. I think, with the 'local' bit meaning local to you?

Sorry, that was a lot of 'locals' in one post...

I think the good news is that someone's bought a bike from an LBS.

The industry will be popping the champagne corks as we speak.

Edit: Or maybe budget cava.

Well our purchase was slightly different to most purchases in the fact that DH bikes are virtually impossible to buy. They're even more impossible to TRY.... we were able to do both, plus visit the shop as with so many events/weekends up that way, it's a weekend LBS almost for us 🙂 We go past Blazing Bikes fairly regularly and for me they're not an Evans etc, but more a local company run by a few blokes... rather than a corporate thing.... So they're LBS in terms of sizing and needing support..

some great LBS experiences last few weeks here for me too, so definitely worth a call out.  I am in South Lanarkshire and my most used LBS's are Billy Bilslands and Pedal Power.  So I contacted Neil at BB late last week, while away on hols to ask if I could pop a rear wheel in when I got back on the Saturday for a true up.  Went in with it mid afternoon, got a call an hour later to say done.

The following day, I was having shifting issues on my Spesh Diverge, which I had bought from Pedal Power - dropped them a message, they said can you bring it in today (that was Sunday) so i put it in the car and went straight over.  The workshop stopped what they were on, put it straight into the stand and sorted it - crush washer on cassette disintegrating and clicking into chain (i had checked everything I could think of, but not that !).

No charge, very helpful folk at all times - the mechanic also took me through micro-adjust for the rear mech on the Sram axs app, which was handy as I hadn't used it before.  Of course I did immediately go and buy them cakes straight afterwards  🙂

They are top guys at Blazing Bikes. Used to do a Thursday night ride around the Long Minge area (prob still going...), and chip butties in the pub afterwards.

They own the pub and camping pods there at Marshbrook. It's the way forward - you can't get away with being 'just a bike shop' anymore. You need a niche and reason for people to visit.

this is what i always took to mean LBS. an independent bike shop, run by the owner. you could live next door to an Evans, but it would never be a local bike shop.

that aside, nice bike! i’m a bit envious. i’d quite like a dh bike. is this for you or your son, or both?

why are there two poohs in the foreground?

probably, because the bike is so fast they came out involuntarily

Is a LBS still the same when it's part of a big chain? I.e. you've mentioned Evans, but places like 99bikes, leisurelakes etc. all also have quite a few shops/franchises etc.

There's mostly independants near me, mixed service through them but mostly good.

was reading the other day about an incentive Raleigh ran for its dealer network in the 90’s, Order enough bikes/frames and you got to go on a full speed run on Concorde. Times change eh.

This. Always a fun night out with Will and Co. Many fun evenings had riding things that are well beyond 'cheeky'. 7 years since I last went on one, should find out if they still run the now I'm back in the area.

Every time I pass I tend to pop in and buy something, just to do my bit keep them going.
