On the ride in this morning I was debating converting my genesis equilibrium so I could use on gravel tracks and hard pack trails.

I have an old set of Rs21s I could chuck on some tyres with grip and remove the guards so there is more clearance.

Anything else I need to think about? It'll be okay won't it? Not going to fold in half or anything?

Tyres wise I'm running 28mm 4seasons - what CX volume / tyre would you recommend?

I've ridden Paris Roubaix on a 16lb carbon fibre cx bike with 28mm tyres, and the 3 Peaks on it with 33mm tubs.
I really don't think that you'll have a problem. Just try the tyres you've got, then maybe some slightly bigger ones! I like Clement tyres, me.

I confirm riding 4seasons on muddy sandy gravel roads with close mudguards is crap.

It might have been okay without the guards but I couldn't be bothered to spend half an hour removing them.

Trying to brake on the drops with slicks was also terrifying.

Think I will stick to my 29er for offroad stuff.
