I was set on a self build genesis equilibrium but due to a rather hefty car bill that will have to be a back burner.

That leaves me with a 1k limit on the C2W but to be honest non of the usual suspects - boardman, dolan, planetx, ribble really do much for me. I'm thinking looking to a 2014/13 bike.

I know a few shops offer C2W on sale bikes (like Paulscycles) and few offer a small top up if it is slightly over the 1k mark which I'd prefer not too..

Its for long winter miles, so comfy, guards and being a bit of a tart looks okay, and I'd like bright colours for the commute.

Not fussed about the latest 11 speed. In fact 9 speed might be a good call as I have a number of chains I could do with using up!

So what bargains are about? Others must be looking like me.

Oh. for 5'11" so 56

You need to add on 11% to the voucher price if buying on C2W. I'd be all over this if I was buying a road bike under 1k just now.

I decided against C2W after reading a lot about it on road.cc .. minimal gain was my conclusion.. though YMMV

C2W just isn't worth the hassle these days... they need to up the limit.

I got a new equilibrium from Paul Milne cycles for £320, but I think it could have been the last 56cm. But try them.
105 5800 groupset - £325 at Merlin
Ultegra 6800 wheels at £260.

And your nearly there. Might be a little over £1K to finish but its what you wanted.

Looks nice doesn't it - sorry its not helping is it.

@scaredypants, no not for now, negotiated new role in the end as they didn't want to lose me. I'll give it another 6 months or so and see how things pan outas lots of change on the horizon, which means I need a winter commuter or ride the best roadie through a third winter.

That equilibrium really doesn't help, though I must say I think you should have gone with silver veloce (275 merlin) silver ritchy finishing kit (120ish) and fulcrum t's (125 ish merlin). With a brown saddle and finishing tape....that would look lurrvllyy

That Giant does look tempting as does a trek mandona if I can find one
