Thinking about a winter project for next year, looking at building a 15' plywood canoe, specifically the Prospector. Any suggestions, recommendations etc.
It will be mainly used in lakes and for mucking about with family etc. Nothing epic...
Fill her boots. Bye bye the evening....

Me too!
Selway fisher do a nice prospector
Built a Selway Fisher canoe (13ft - Waterman maybe?) with my dad a few years back. Seem to remember it taking a few weeks worth of evenings and being really enjoyable. We made it in the garage and it was fairly straight-forward, though my dad has a reasonable amount of wood working experience.
The plans were great and the stitch and glue construction fairly simple too. We built it in the summer, you might struggle to get epoxy to cure in the winter if it's being made outside/in an unheated shed/garage.

Yes,
Was an awesome project a few summers ago.
Would be a good winter project too as long as you have somewhere warm to work (and to allow the epoxy to go off properly)
Probably cost around £250 in materials in the end as I made mine in two halves (stainless steel joining hardware costs alot), you could do it for around £200 if you did it conventionally..
The prospector is a great canoe, have used mine with an outboard for some cool sea trips around Plymouth
Thanks guys for the responses, confirmed what I was thinking re kit and cost etc.
Agree the issue of epoxy going off may mean moving it from garage to heated space inside for the winter. I may get someone I know to cut pieces using cnc cutter.
I have already wasted whole evenings on song of the paddle website. Sometimes a nicer distraction than being on singletrackworld.
Thanks again
I quite fancy building a dacron canoe.
Should probably fix the house first though 🙁
