Never owned a pair of water resitant/proof shorts but am toying with the idea of getting a pair this winter.

Are they worth it and what's recomended?

Cheers...

I just wear the same ones all year - various Enduras - none of them really soak up moisture anyway.

hated my tenn ones. Lasted one ride at the puffer before the arse ripped out of them. I Use Troy Lee Moto's year round now, not fully waterproof but not an issue and they actually last. screw disposable shorts.

The Endura Hummvee 3/4 are pretty good for the dryer moments of Winter, and they're tough as nails, ie they're thick material which will resist minor showers and mud spray from rear wheel - but only up to a point - if it's really wet they'll just get soaked.

Tenn Proteans have been revised to supposedly fix that problem. I've half a dozen rides on mine and they look fine.

Endura MT500 Spray 3/4rs for me, waterproof enough for winter and long enough to keep mostly warm.

Cheers for the replies. Would it be right that any kind of waterproof/resistant shorts have a limited life span so they are only used occasionally?

I'm just about (to be forced) to retire my almost 5 year old Endura Mt500 spray shorts, they've govered a few 1000kms in that time in the worst that the Peak district, wales and sherwood pines (surprisingly gritty) can throw at them.
I've re-proofed them a couple of times but the taping is coming away inside now and the stitching on the seat is wearing dangerously thin.
I keep checking in to these threads to see what else is recommended, but I can easily see me buying a new set of the Enduras, I think mine have had a good innings.

Personally, i don't like 3/4 length shorts - I have some humvees which still look like new as I just don't wear them. I prefer to wear 3/4 length bibs to keep my knees warm but free for pedaling, i also tend to wear knee pads whenever I'm on the MTB now after fracturing my knee cap last winter.

Use my altura's all winter through and tend to reproof them at the end of the season, and I use them for every ride (average 2 per week) throughout autumn/winter/spring. As per Bucko mine are several years old & still going strong.

I'm after some too - in an ideal world, something cut like a TLD Skyline would be perfect for me.

Pretty much everything is on the short side, or 3/4 length.

Any ideas? The RF Agent could have been ideal, but i'm not convinced, they are shorter on the inseam which is annoying.

I'm also not spending £130 on a pair of Sweet shorts.

ive got those addict dwr and they are softshell which means they are warm and nice but let water in after youve washed them a couple of times.

ive gone through several pairs if the tempest properly waterproof ones and they are good in the fact that your ass is always dry. On the flip side if its muddy ive had them destropy themselves, my saddle and the anodizing off the frame as they are wide at the bottom and can rub.

the humvees are a roubust short but crap when its wet.very heavy

i ride in a lot of mud.

If you're using then with a rear mudguard then they're going to last a lot longer than if you're not
