Good afternoon, over the past two winters I have been running 650b wheels in my gravel bike fitted with 47mm WTB Sendero tyres. These have been brilliant tyres for the off-road sections but they are slow on any linking roads. I also find that I just prefer the way the bike feels with 700c wheels in place.

This winter I'm planning to run 700c wheels with fixed guards in place (my bike serves double duty with road wheels fitted too and proper guards just make that far more pleasant!) but the Hutchinson Touaregs just don't cut it once the trails get muddy.

I think i've narrowed my choice down to either WTB Resolutes in 42mm guise or Pirelli Cinturato Gravel M in 40mm (it'd be a no-brainer for the Pirelli if the 45s were in stock anywhere)

Seeking feedback from those who have used either of these for UK winter gravel riding.

I've used the WTB Resolute, they are good as an all rounder but a mud tyre, they are not. I'm just about to swap out my Hutchinsom Toureg tyres too, have a set of Terreno wets to try (would have gone for the Terreno mix, but none now in stock).

Rene Herse Steilacoom 700x38 work briliantly in mud and on the road, but are very pricy. They are a tyre that you can leave on for all 4 seasons.

Update, the Pirelli's are out of stock everywhere now!

But Merlin have got Schwalbe G-One ultra bite (and Bite) on offer at £60 for a pair, so they're ordered in 45mm flavour. Will report back once they're here.

I quite liked the Maxxis ravagers, good durable casing too.

The WTB Resolute are great on roads & Trails but WTB Nano are much better in mud & off-road (they are based on an MTB tyre). Used them to do lots of trails around the Longmynd last month & they were great (roll well on the road too)

I've just bought some pirelli cinturato gravel tyres as I needed tubeless tyres. Left is a continental cyclo Cross 700x35 and on the right is the pirelli in 700x40. Haven't had chance to use them yet.

Sorry, not very helpful but have just fitted some 35mm Terreno Mix as my CX training tyres (e.g. deliberately seeking mud but probably linking sections on tarmac).

So far very impressed, easiest tubeless install to date, fast on road, fun in mud. I like the Terreno Wet too but can't bring myself to wear them down on tarmac! Sure you can't find a set anywhere?

Have also just installed Terreno Mix, 700x38 tubeless. My first tubeless install, much easier than expected, handle surprisingly well in mud so far given that they aren't billed as the Wet version.

+1 ish. I'm hesitating to put mine back on because I'm finding myself mostly on the road at the moment on this bike, but soonish they'll go on. Brilliant in mud and they feel lovely. And they are remarkable for knobblies on tarmac. I might get a 2nd pair of wheels though and switch between them and road tyres during the winter.

Kudos to Merlin, I placed my order at 5:14pm yesterday, tyres were delivered at 1030 this morning!

Anyway, they weighed 668 & 670g against an advertised weight of 610g for the 45mm version.

They were fairly tight to get on to the rims, but not so tight as to need tools. They popped straight up with a compressor and held air without any sealant in, when I removed the valves to inject sealant the beads stayed put and they reinflated easily. Measured up at 42.5mm across the casing and 44mm on the tread at 35ish psi on 22mm internal rims.

I dropped them to 31/33 psi and took the bike out for a short 11 mile loop taking in a little road, some muddy tracks and some forest road. They’re quieter than the senderos and to be honest using the bum dyno don’t feel much slower than the toauregs they’ve replaced! Grip feels great, some real slop on the tracks I rode today (including a real boggy section where I got stuck on the mtb last winter) and the bike just kept going forwards, very happy, especially at the price I paid for them!

@karnali sorry, I can't remember where I got them from, got them back in the summer anticipating a supply crisis around now.
